Dropped my key and the immobiliser stopped working. Fortunately the door was open and I had the wand. I presume it has knocked the battery out.

Quick question: has anyone taken a key apart to replace the battery? I could see any obvious entry points and didn't want to wreck the key in its entirety.

If its the old ford key for the sag like it is for the Tam it should just split in the middle, just use something slim and work your way round. If its not the cell and the micro switch that has broken Karl Baker is the man to speak to about getting a new key fob and having it coded up.

Thanks Shep - it is the old ford key. will give that a go.

Split it and have a look, the circuit board can be detached completely and removed if there are any more 'bits' then something has fallen off the board. The microswitch is very delicate but can be soldered back in position with a steady hand!

Think they're pretty low tech so you can't do any harm taking it apart. Mine stopped working because one of the internal lugs had broken off. Took it to pieces and wedged a bit of cocktail stick in its place and it now works better than ever

Took it apart last night, but couldn't get it to work this morning. will continue to fettle today and swap the batteries between keys but suspect it might be kaputt.

Did you try pushing the little button on the circuit board directly ?

I didn't, but will be giving it a try tonight, along with swapping batteries over and retesting. Nothing appears to have dropped off the circuit board, so hopefully it's just a battery issue which coincided with me dropping it. Fingers crossed anyway.

If the worst happens ,and it doesn't respond, take your key code to any major Ford dealer,and they can make up a new one.

All attempts failed. Ford dealer on Saturday methinks. Thanks for the suggestions folks - that's what I like about TVR ownership.

I might be wrong but I am fairly certain only the key shank is Ford, (so they will not be able to help) the fob is part of the Meta alarm (its not a transponder key) you need a meta alarm specialist (such as Karl Baker at Car & Bike installations)to re-code the alarm with another fob, its not just as easy as adding a key, the alarm needs to be re-programmed with ALL the keys.

I have had my audio install done by Karl and my alarm fault fixed. He is very good, he knows TVR inside out as well as the Meta alarm systems they used. I would give him a call and ask his advise he is always willing to help and you don't need to take the car to him to get this done all he needs is the alarm control box and the keys.
