polished airbox

Hi,

Has anyone cleaned up their airbox to a healthy shine? My airbox is looking dull and a bit warn and now doesn't match the smart new red/carbon cam top I had fitted.

Was wondering what products you used to clean through the muck?

it's plastic isn't it? - i would guess a bit of fairy and a cloth!?
is it possible to buy aftermarket boxes?

Next stage after the fairy.... T-cut is most effective, then Armorall to protect the shine.

It's not cheap, but there is a carbon fibre replacement air box available.

ACT for the Airbox (Just over a £1000 with trumpets and Richard (Biggriff) for the plug cover... me for the elbow grease.

No overall claimed performance improvement but bottom end power meant to be better, but at least my engine gets filtered air now..since most plastic ones are broken around the inlets and fit poorly.

that does look amazing. especially with the coloured cam cover. i'm sold. just need find a spare 1K lying around...

was funny, a friend was saying how 'basic' the engine looks compared to other marques (think ferrari, lambo etc, where it's all on display and looking very nice indeed) but that starts to look at lot more finished with the cam cover & carbon airbox.

also, where did you source your cam cover?

The cam cover inserts are made by me. (Full pre-preg autoclaved carbon with all the seals and fixings - no more silicone!)

Racing Green also do a replacement air box. Not as expensive (or expensive looking) as the ACT one, but its a definite improvement over the "milk tray" plastic of the original. It's a much tighter fit too. AFAIK they will paint it for you.

I removed the airbox and used Fairy Liquid to clean the gunk off. Then I used some Farecla G3 compound and my rotary polisher to being it up to a fantastic shine. I then used some Autoglym Super Resin polish to help protect the finish; well worth the effort!

Not only that but you get a weight saving of 700 grams if you fit Biggriffs carbon cam cover.
