Warming T350 Engine

What should the temp be for oil etc be before extending the engine? Cheers.

As a guide it's best for every 10deg oil to increase the revs by a thousand. For example, 20deg - 2k revs, 30deg - 3k revs and so on. Don't give it full beans until warm, 70deg+.

I'd say that is too many revs / too soon.

I don't go over 2500 until 40 then gradually use a few more (3000-3500) to 50 then up to 4000 by 60.

After 60 degrees you are warmed up.

Am I right in thinking that the change up lights on the dash are to stop you over rev when engine not warmed up.

after 60 = nice n'hot
after 80 = cya

No they are rev limiter lights,personally I don't rev engine over 3000rpm until oil is at 60.

interestingly i did see them come on when i accidently bipped it above 3000rpm from cold the other day... so maybe they do kick in?

Yeah i think they do kick in, mine always seem too.

ETA: Not that i thrash it from cold!

I know this but i'm 95% sure but i think mine come on earlier if the engine is cold, can anyone confirm this?

Yes I believe they are change up lights but also are there to protect the engine when cold to remind you to change up and not over rev when cold.....other wise there is no point to them. Same as on my CSL. Talking to TVR specialist they say the same....If you think about why else would you have them.

yes it's definitely before the usual 'hot' settings, mine only went to about 3500 and they came on when usually they are set for 6500, 7000 etc... and don't come on at 3500 once hot.

(there's no way i'd take the revs up to 6K, 7K etc until she's nice and hot).

Very true, although i believe the general thinking is that after 60, you are pretty good to go (does the handbook not indicate this too?).

2500 rpm for me until the oil hits 40deg, then 3500 rpm until I see 70deg. On the move this can be hard to see due to the cold airflow so use some common sense, after around 20 mintes driving it's fairly safe to say your oil will be up to temp, usually easy to spot if you parlk up for a minute and the oil temp starts to reflect its true reading.

yes, there's a lot of heat build up in the engine, i've stopped for petrol many times just down the road, and it's been 20-something, jumped back in 5 mins later and it's up to late 30's early 40's.

Also, like you say if you do get on the motorway/open roads fairly quickly, sometimes you'll never see 60, let alone 80, as the airflow keeps the sensor reading down.
