TAMORA FLAT BATTERY "STRANGE"
Discussion
hi all
tried to move the tam today and it has a flat battery
this also happened three weeks ago so i fitted a new battery and all has been ok for the last three weeks untill today
so if its not the battery ? i've had no warning signs that the alternator isnt charging its around 12.9 to 13.2 volts
what could it be ????
any advice please
cheers keith

Keith, mine goes flat if left for 2-3 weeks. The alarm current draw is enough to drain the battery over this time. I put a new battery on and it still happens.tried to move the tam today and it has a flat battery

Hi Keith, That still seems a tad low, mine's 14.2 But i've just had a new alternator fitted, befor it went conk it was still charging at 13.6, might be an idea to get a test on it.tried to move the tam today and it has a flat battery

hi shep thanks for helping out ! i keep the car in a secure garage so i dont always have to put the alarm on
so i know its not that , i did take her for a 100 mile run on saturday and today was the first time i went to start her
so it may be what kcc said re the alternator ???
thanks guys
darkmark , thats interesting 14.4 volts to 13.2 i've never had it that high before
i will get it checked out ? could it be anything else ?

It doesn't seem to make a difference with ours whether I arm the alarm or not; after 3-4 weeks sat doing nothing the battery is dead either way! Edited by PYNEY on Monday 5th October 19:36
I know it's not the 100 amp fuse or the alternator as I changed both 2 months ago.

hi all
jump started the tam tonight from the anderson connector
started fine and i took her for a run, alternator showing 13.0 volts max and when engine ticking over only 12.5 volts
because she started does this mean that its not the 100 amp fuse ?
if its the alternator ? my tvr garage has offered me a recon unit £180 + labour which seems alot for secondhand
online i see you can buy a new unit for £140 lucas to £230 so what alternator/make would be my best buy quality / price ?
the tam goes in on thursday so advice please ! what would you do, recon or new

The car will still start, regardless of whether the 100amp fuse is there or not. Your voltages sound low, roughly what I was getting when my 100 amp fuse went.
Alternator prices vary from place to place; Power are pretty reasonable if memory serves. A recon unit should be fine; it's pretty rare for the units to fail in the first place so no reason why a quality recon shouldn't last.
Edited to say, if you were near Bristol you could have had my spare alternator for 100 quid!
