Under normal driving I am having a slight problem engaging 5th gear. It will engage but it takes more of a shove on the stick. I am finding giving the throttle a bit of a blip does help. I haven’t had the car long and was wondering if this was normal? All other gears engage absolutely fine. Anybody had this and any advice would be great.
Thanks in advance

Not normal I don't think.

Best case slight clutch adjustment required thumbup

Worst case new clutch and / or slave cylinder censored

Worst case = 5th gear syncho on the way out, which is a common fault on the T5 gearbox.

If the clutch is dragging engaging gears will be hardest with the car stationary.

Thought it might be the clutch but doesn't seem to drag at all, At stand still or any other gears. One thing I have noticed is the it doesn't like / will not select 5th before engaging reverse.

If a 5th syncho is required then I presume a large bill is on the cards! Anybody had this done and what am I in stall for.

If it is this then you still have 4 gears and 5th if you're careful, so no panic.

Had my box repaired under warranty so no idea on cost.

I'd start using 3rd before reverse instead of 5th.

Mine started out like this before getting hard to engage any gear and also dragging very badly at standstill.
Several fingers had broken and a new clutch was required, inc slave it was £1050.

Thanks for your advice people.

26k on the original clutch so I think it might be on the way out. Might be in for an early service next year and new clutch.

My 5th gear syncro is a bit hit and miss too, I was quoted about £400-£500 to do that and the Diff mount bushes at the same time.

I would try and find out if its the clutch or syncro as its a big difference price wise.

I also have a problem with 5th gear!
When putting 5th in at revs under 4000 all o.k.!
When reving 4th over 5000 rpms 5th gear is crunching!

All others are fine, also reverse, so it should be not the clutch
it should be the syncro ring.
Corvette c5 owner have same problem, they solve it with other lub fluid
(no ATF oil, they change to Castrol gearbox oil)for the gearbox!

Any suggestions are welcome

The T5 box is better with semi synthetic oil rather than a full synthetic. I suspect however that's its a synchro ring. Would be wise to do clutch and cylinder when the box is out for repair.

Exactly the same symptoms as mine, 63k on my gearbox, just had it rebuilt by John Reid of Grantura Engineering, as it happens my 1st, 2nd and 5th had gone, all the gears were fine, just put new bearing n seals in.

Just picked it up this morning from Paul & Heath at X-works and the gearbox feels really nice now, really precise yet smooth at the same time. Really please with it.
