What do the big capasitors in the passenger foot well do?

Heater fan speed control unit.
If it's been unvelcroed take it out and check the 4 pin plastic connector.
There's a design fault with the pins being too small leading to them getting hot.
Eventually this causes a poor connection, a capacitor goes pop and the fan stops wotking.
You don't want that in Winter.
I ran a thicker supply wire to mine and soldered it directly to the board after I had to replace a capacitor a while ago.
