Fuel consumption survey: T350s and Tamoras
Discussion
It's difficult to be sure with the good old TVR petrol gauge being the super accurate piece of equipment it is, but I seem to be getting a little over 160 miles out of a 40 litre refill.
I think that works out at just over 17 MPG or 4 miles a litre.
I live in NW London, so the majority of the miles I do are (unfortunately) inner city. The car is definitely more economical when I am out on the open road, but I was just wondering what everyone else's figures look like? Particularly interested in the London based cars for obvious reasons.
What do the lucky owners that live out amongst the A and B road see on average?
What kind of mileage do these cars give on the average track day?
Jason at ST8 SIX mentioned that these cars can be live quite happily on normal unleaded, though he recommended super unleaded for any longer journeys. What's the view on this?

With my old 3.6 engine I could achieve a tad over 30mpg on a steady motorway run; fill up before the journey, do a 270 mile round trip and fill up after. Usually, I was getting about 26 - 27 mpg, but this was using the car like a daily driver and not simply blatting it everywhere.
Now with the 4 litre I reckon I'm getting a max of about 27 but more usually about 22. I must admit, though, that now it feels considerably faster and more powerful I am heavier with the right foot.
Never checked on a track day, but not very many mpg!

On a dry Spa My t350 was using just short of a gallon per lap or there abouts.Jason at ST8 SIX mentioned that these cars can be live quite happily on normal unleaded, though he recommended super unleaded for any longer journeys. What's the view on this?
Normal unleaded is fine but 98+ is more stable at higher temps.
On a long trip such as to Germany mine averages 26-27mpg. This is mostly cruising at 130-140kph. I get 22-24mpg in mixed driving. Obviously you can get much less if you're using the revs a lot (which you only really need on an open road).
I have a higher geared diff which results in around 8% worse economy IIRC.

Surely a higher geared diff would improve the economy? I have a higher geared diff which results in around 8% worse economy IIRC.

I have absolutely no idea. The gauge goes down, I fill her up. Didn't buy the Tamora to measure the fuel consumption, TBH.
Entirely agree with these sentiments. But being a nerd, I check periodically anyway! I get around 30mpg on long hauls but otherwise in general use (regularly including commuting) usually 18-20. On track, <10.

I'm on a standard diff, I think, and my figures are much the same - 28 on motorways and 23-25 on A roadsI have a higher geared diff which results in around 8% worse economy IIRC.
Don't normally look too closely, it's bad enough to discover I get through 2 tankfuls a week. However yesterday drove 202 miles to Oulton Park, almost 8 gallons =26mpg mainly close to national speed limit. 130 miles on track, 9.5 gallons = 14mpg though as it was wet drove less, and less high revs, than normal.
Standard diff.
Normally expect 5 miles a litre/22mpg when looking for peetrol stations.

Another great reason to own a TVR - better economy than the Astons, Audis and Lambos, not to mention the RS/S type cars from ze Germans. I think Porsche are the only ones who do well here.
I think we do better than the Astons et all most of the time, however, my Porsche Turbo was a proper drinker if you were on boost (and I was all the time!
)The fuel gauge is such a pain on the TVR though, you can never be quite sure where you stand. This week with nothing but inner city work, it was showing me 16 litres left in the tank having done 90 odd miles and then 10 seconds later showed me 5 litres!
I think I've noticed that it stays more or less consistent when there are more than 20 litres in the tank, but loses the plot when it drop below that.
I think I can safely say that I get about 100 miles to the tank if I do nothing but city travel. I rarely get into third gear!
I'm sure there was a thread on here ages ago, suggesting that actually the tank is bigger than the gauge suggests. Something about the gauge showing zero, driving for several miles, then filling with something like 60 litres, but the gauge showed 54L (which is as much as I have ever seen on my gauge). never had the balls to try and prove it. I fill asap after 15L.
