Drive in/out battery change

has anyone had a battery changed while they wait around the london area? i think mine is possibly on its original one (8 years), and is losing charge in less than a week now.

Save your pennies & do it yourself, its an easy job. Should take about 15-20 mins max, maybe a little longer if you spend time inspecting the anderson connector and checking the insulation by the chassis to minimise the fire risk from a dead short. The trick is to get a battery that will fit under the lip in the battery hidey-hole otherwise it won't mount correctly.

It's an 069 round post, costs about £60 and comes with a 2/3 yr warrenty.

live in london, in a flat with underground car park. no jack, let alone a low access one. probably not the right tools for the job either.

i did ask one 'group' in london, and they said i'd have to leave the car there as different batteries were used. surely there can't have been that many used? (hmmmmm....... it was TVR though....)

Sounds like they don't want to get a battery in stock and find it won't fit. If you can't leave the car then the logical thing to do would be to drop by at the place, have them take a peep and then come back when they've got the battery in stock.

Its the profile of the side of the battery thats a sod. Not all 069 round posts have the same case. The battery slides under a lip on one side and is clammped on the other if there is no lip there is nothing to clamp to if its too big it won't fit!

thanks shep. looks like i might have to just leave it somewhere for a day or so then.

it's not holding enough charge to re-start even after running for about 40mins. 13.5v reading too, so looks like the alternator is ok ish.

Tamore, my local garage fitted a new battery recently, was about £70 for the battery plus £35 labour and they kept the car powered up via the anderson connector whilst the old battery was out, also is a good opportunity to check the high current cabling to chassis at the same time, whereabout's in London are you?

anderson connection seems fine as it easily jump starts, even from wifey's 1.6 alfa 147.

The anderson connector on my 2004 t350 is completely knackered,I think it's corroded. Always had the plastic cover in place as well. Anyone tell me if the innards of the connector are made of steel or copper? Obviously if it's copper, that would rule out my corrosion theory. I do all my charging through the cig lighter now using an accumate.

Pins are copper coated, they can collect crap from the top side which is not protected. You can remove them (pressure clips hold them in place). If/when you decide to replace it pack the top/bottom with petrolium jelly to stop it happening again. I packed the top of mine with silicone which also reduces the risk of the pins moving together and creating a dead short if the plastic body cracks where its bolted through to secure it to the car and we all know what can happen then..... crispy TVR which is not good!!

I bought it locally from euro car parts - Bosch. Can't remember the model but I could dig it out if you want me to. It's about a 5 or 10 min drive from me so easy enough.

Tamore, had mine fitted at a Bosch service centre locally in Hitchin, about 1 hour drive from Rotherhithe? took the same time to fit including lots of battery was in stock, give us a shout if you want any more info.

Phone ahead and arrange a time to visit the TVR Centre in Barnet who will do it on the spot for you and even make you a coffee. An easy blast from the docklands, just avoid rush hour.

well with a bit of help from mr cactussed, i did it myself.

was an 072 battery for the record.
