Oil TEMP sensor - where is it?

I've got an 'error code 17' and no oil temp reading this morning. Does anyone know where the oil temp sensr is located? I guess on the block somewhere, but I know the two sensors under the airbox are water.

I believe it is located at the bottom of the oil tank.

Yep, found it. Its on the OS. Cleaned it drie it lubed it ... still no reading. New one me thinks

The wire on the end is only siliconed into place, try pushing the wire further into the switch, worth a try before buying a new one, also worth insulating it as well, so you don`t get "- xx degrees" dash warnings in winter.

mine has gone as well, my car is in forza west at the moment and he says he cant get one, so any ideas as to where i can track one down would be great.

Anyone know if these can be replaced without dropping the engine oil?

Yup, it can. Some oil loss is inevitable, however, so have some spare handy. The new sensor does NOT come with a replacement washer so you have to be johnny-on-the-job to fit the old one to the new sensor first. Easiest on a ramp, obviously. Tighten - remembering the sensor is hollow brass - car back down and top up. Simple!

Hmmm, how accurate are these sensors? I've covered mine over with a protective rubber sleeve to stop wind chill, but it barely gets above 70C unless its in traffic. Same with water temp sensors too, which seem to under-read. Can they be reset/reconfigured or is it just best to replace?

I don't know? Mine reads approx 25 deg low. This morning when I started her up, oil temp was -19 deg!

Its always read low but its getting worse! Time to replace it me thinks.

Cheers for the advise on replacement Mad Wud - I'll try and pick up a washer too.

I dropped my oil into a spare can replaced sensor and filled tank back up with old oil.
