speakers in door cards

anyone retro fitted some small speakers in to the cards? recently changed the backs and whilst it was a faff bit reluctant to hack into the doors. easy enough or not??

Before you start 'hacking' - and personally I don't like the speaker-in-the door look - I had some rather nifty tweeters fitted in the leading corners of the roll cage at the same time as some beefier bass units in the back. They are just enough to lift some treble sound to the front and you don't even notice they are there. I didn't spend a fortune and I suspect there's the potential to fit better/more expensive units than I did. All through a local supplier.

HI the center rear is just a grill when I bought the car it had the ntx fronts with one rear in the middle.
So faced with a hole at the rear an extra grill seam to fit the bill.
I have since changed the headunit for an Alpine ipod/usb media unit much better.
Because I had a small speaker in the door already it was relativly easy but the holes had to be made much bigger and the leather cut to fit.
It does require some cafefull measuring and cutting took about a day to fit all the speakers but worth it.

99 times out of 100 yes glue (and lots of it is the order of the day!) The tweeters are actually held in on a bracket. Karl Baker does an excellent job at installing audio in TVR using MB QUART stuff. not cheap, an install that looks like Barry's to supply and fit is just under £1000. It may seem expensive but there is a lot more work than meets the eye to install to a good standard and the proper MB Quart stuff (now known under a different name) aint cheap either.

I should add I installed mine myself after buying the stuff off Carl, I have been a vehicle Alarm/Audio installer for nearly 20years so have a bit of experience you could say.

How did you get the speaker cable through to the doors or is there spare wires in the existing cabling that operates the windows, electric mirror....that you can use?

The factory put speaker wires in the front doors, even though you might not have asked for the front speakers. Its a bit hit and miss if they bothered to wire them back to the ISO block for the head unit though. Mine had the wires that went knowhere. Karl drilled through the door and body to run new wires in.
