dash faults

sometimes getting faults with the dash like needles sticking or shift lights going awol, seem to recall reading dash has an ecu which can be unplugged to reset it, does the battery need to be disconnected when doing this?

Dash ECU is in the drivers footwell by the welly pedal (cover is velcroed in place). Needle sticking could be the motors failing. I would send it off to Cath Mason for a once over to get it fixed

I recently sent mine to Cath but they could not even be read at the time. She advised that I did unplug it 1st and reconnect just to see if it made a difference. Yes, you need to disconnect the battery while you unplug it !

Why do you need to disconnect the battery while you're doing this? I've unplugged mine a few times without disconnecting the battery and never had any probs?

To be safe I would drop the power off before I unplugged it. If it were to cause a power spike it might damage the clock pack and/or the ECU. Don't disconnect the battery just remove fuse #20 (7.5A fuse 5th down from from the top on the fuse board). This is the fuse for the dash & EFI ECU Units.

excellent thanks for that hopefully reconnecting it will do the trick it seemed to when i did it with window ecu recently for a different problem.

right have had a look and disconnected the two plugs with the ribbon cables, one was quite loose so hoping thats it but the other connections on normal blocks were so stiff could not get off, have i done it right or does everything need to be disconnected?

Dropping the power off (by removing the fuse) should be enough, always best to check the cable plugs as they may be loose as you have found. The ribbon cables are what is connected to the clocks. Have you checked the other end to check they are secure? Best done with the roof off with the Tam it makes it easier to see where to plug the clocks in.
