Leaking water filler cap

I have noticed for a while that my Tam was leaving a small puddle of water in my garage after a run , but could not find a leak anywhere.
but i noticed today while it was running that water was coming out of the cap!
car does not overheat and fans kick in at 96deg
is this normal ?
do i need to replace the cap?
or is it something more serious?

i read somewhere about proper water levels but cant find it anywhere

please help

with most tivs they have a water level which they like - fill it higher than that and they just "sick it up" onto the garage floor...my chim water level is only about an inch deep right at the bottom of the container - fill it up any more than that and it just pukes it back out...

i remember my chim years ago having to find its own level.

just did not realise the Tam would be the same

The blue cap has a pressure relief valve in it. It may be knackered (stuck open) so will vent all the time when the system is pressurised i.e at temp. Also worth checking the cap is on tight!

As for setting the water level. I would fill the chamber up to near the top, screw the cap on, and go out for a hoon. When she gets up to full temp (wait for the fans) any excess water will be spit out through the pressure relief valve in the cap.

thanks for the info , mine has a black cap not blue ,maybe this is the problem?

think ill try get hold of one and fill it up and see what happens.

anyone know the best place to get the right one?

Look on the parts site for some of the TVR dealers (such as TVR Power, Racing Green). You will see the blue cap. It is actually a Volkswagen part, from many VAG cars. You should be able to pick one up at most VAG dealers, or car parts outlets.

Note: Don't let the coolant level in the 'tower' get too low. IF your problem is overfilling, then yours will find a level somewhere between the top and the half way point where there is a side outlet pipe to the engine. If it drops below this then you're sucking air (so to speak).
