Belt screech?

Morning.

When I start the Tam from cold and give the throttle a LITTLE blip as she turns over when she fires there is what sounds like a fan belt screech that disappears as the revs drop to idle. Obviously I am only bliping the throttle ever so slightly and have not heard the noise whilst driving or when starting from warm.

Just wondered if anyone had any thoughts...

I have also aquired this annoying sound recently!!

TVR power diagnosed as the power steering belt.

I have replaced the alternator and belt earlier this year so thought it was that but apparently not.

My steering can be notchy when low speed manouvering sometimes too.

Interesting, not noticed any problems with the steering, will have a 'play' over the weekend and see.

Did they say whether it needed to be sorted asap or how much it would be?

I thought the power steering was powered by an electric pump, thus needing no belt. Do you mean the main drive belt?

Does your car have air conditioning fitted?

Mine did exactly this when it threw the air-con belt...

Yup got aircon but it seemed to work fine when I drove her last which I am guessing it wouldn't if it had thrown the belt?

My aircon belt squeals for a second when I start up the aircon if I'm doing over 3,000rpm. Not otherwise. This belt/motor is not running until you turn the aircon on so you can count it out of your problem unless you have the aircon on 100% of the time. BTW, I think mine is just a smidge tight, something for service - it works fine.

I have aircon too, but it does this whether on or off?

Im not sure on the power steering belt / electric pump answer - TBO im going on what i have been told by Power...i havent looked into it any further as its just annoying.

They didnt say re price to fix, but i didnt ask either - had just spend £900 on a decat chip and shocks and i couldnt take anymore at that point

Have been under the bonnet enough and figure im going to enjoy a little before going under again.

Alt belt. Had the same problem on the Tam recently when it was replaced. Just needs tightening. Will also do it under heavy load (aka bootin' it) although its hard to hear at higher engine speeds

+1. A tad irritating. Mine goes straight on start up and thought it was the alternator belt
