Looking at improving the back box silencing, and maybe performance.

Cut apart it looks like this:-

No packing just perforated baffle plates and tubes, and no balance pipes.
It will have to be cut apart to re-assemble.

With trackday noise constraints becoming an issue I was considering packing between the perforated end section to reduce noise, and drop a balance pipe in, alternatively throw it in the bin and start a fresh!

I will take it to JP Exhaust for comment, !!

Any other suggestions please?

Look forwrd to seeing what Jp say, with restrictions in you may increase torque but I would tthink peak power maybe down a little?

Ps i'm sure it wont be that dirty when it goes back on, bet it'll be like a mirror!

Who designed the Sagaris exhaust system?
Would be interested to know how it evolved.

I guess it was tested, it worked, it was cheap, so into production.

Any more advice John?

Not really G other than sitting down with software packags that allow exhaust gas analysis.

With a careful design you should be able to maintain the power level. Typically the box will need to increase in volume however if the original box was not of optimum design you may not need to increase the size.

I suspect within a few years if we are not legislated off the road we will have a Gas Chromatograph stuck on the back end of it with a sentinel tree-hugger there to monitor the damned thing.

First an excuse for G, that is my exhaust rear box so thats why it is dirty.

G,

You need to do what I have done, it is the only way to get the power and the noise as you want it. (true duel)

I will post some pics up later, I think I sent you one of it with the undertray off?

Paul........

Edward Quick (Quicky) designed it. Now of PDQ.

Thought that might have been the case.
Not sure about letting him near the Sag again, last time he cut lots of holes in it .....!!! winkbiggrin

Interesting. Same would apply to a T350 box as presumably virtually identical inside aswell.

Sensible improvement mods are always good fun to work out and implement, and JP produce good quality exhausts.

Must be a market for this. Like many I'd like to stick with my de-cats for their improved flow efficiency and heat-reduction in engine bay. If same or more flow is possible to keep top-end torque, would like to reduce it below the current 103db which is too much for many trackdays which would also hopefully soften the slightly harsh top-end note with de-cats + standard box (though undoubtedly some packing's been fried by now after 45k)

Can't remember if 6cyl engines benefit from balance pipe like V8's do. To be useful for pulses would think it would have to be before silencer though.

Most unusual compact & efficient silencer design is on the new Mac MP4-12C as per photo in Evo mag p.108 this month - they say that the little 'mixing chamber' enables it to pass the current db regs with ease, though it's little larger than a lunchbox. ears

Paul, I think you are right, there is a market for it. If I could I would post a pic of my exhaust, it is two Mosler race silencers, 6" in diameter and each one is 24" long. Not pretty at the moment but can be made to look so. No loss in power - actually the reverse but at least 25 DB's less than they were.

No, I would not do that to your exhaust!

It is mine, yours is intact!

I am going to pack it at both dead ends and see what it does, for what time it takes.
