I think I may become a TVR dealer:

from this:

I wonder if they tidied up the paint damage, or are using it as a tool to 'allow' prospective buyers to negotiate a bit rolleyes

I noticed that too, as i was looking to buy this one!

The dealer didnt buy it for £20k either!

The car did need a service and the paint needed some work.

Johns cars are mint when sold. Rarely any points to correct when they go on sale.

Service and any items attended to, paint, valet, warranty, collection from seller, over allowance on pex or money knocked off as expected from anyone without a pex VAT on profit...

Nope, I thik I'll stick with what I do for a living...

It doesn't seem to be business, it is. Same chance exists for all to do it - if we have the balls, the knowledge and the cash.

If the car is serviced and the paint attended to in the price I guess the markup is fair, the guys need to make a profit after all.

I don't see the problem confused

By a car for 'x', spend 'y' on it and sell for 'z'. If 'z' is lower than 'x+y' why bother doing it?

And I imagine they have the warranty risk...

Correct, but it hasn't sold yet! I am sure we will all wait for when it does, intrigued to know how much it goes for. Still not convinced all what has possibly been done as listed above justifies a minimum of 25% mark up.

Why to they need to justify anything?

Seriously some of you people need to get a grip... well IMO anyhow. wink

We don't need to get a grip, calm down.

I thought it was a big markup, but now thinking about it IF the work is done then it isn't so big.

Might not even have one - some dealers won't offer much whilst others will sell you an aftermarket one which is essentially an insurance policy (little cost to them).

Not having a pop at the dealer, I just think this is a bizarre situation in the current car sales environment. I would hate to see a good car sit unsold for months because the marketing strategy is poor!

Sorry, but I thought I was responding to the original post i.e. from this to this and £5k increase.

If it was easy everyone would do it. Never complain about someone else making a big profit because in anything there is risk. If you want the same profit you need to take the same risks! One of my customers has recently traded his Gallardo in for a California. The dealers gave him 65k for it and Now have it marked up for 95k! If all goes well that's a healthy profit even taking into account all the overheads. But if the engine goes pop while in their ownership.......

I dont see any problem with this, its a car dealer not a charity, their objective is to make money...

Buy it -> fix faults -> service it -> provide warranty -> then money tied up until it sells -> worth 3-5K profit at that level.

Its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. They can put it up for sale at any price they wish, if it doesnt sell fast enough they can always lower it. They just need a customer that wants that exact spec, if that customer comes along he may want to pay a little more for the car he wants

Agree with Targ and Crimbo!! Yes they have to make money, it aint charity and if ya want a TVR that you dont have to worry about for a year or so with everything tip top and spot on on collection then you pay that little bit more in my opinion. I did with my Sagaris, i could have bought a cheaper one, no doubt, but i wanted one in mint con with no hassles attatched so i went to RG for mine. And the personal service has been bloody superb from Chris. If i have any concirns he is there on text, phone, email and replies with 10 mins. Nuf said really.......

Each dealer warrants a car fo a minimum of 90 days SOG act. So any work comes from potential profit.

I'm fairly sure the current TVR market is well understood by the trader... wink
