Speedo problems(& not my swimming trunks!!!)

Hi all,

I know a few of you had your speedo stop working intermitently and then flash up some crazy numbers like 226mph. I know the common fault is the sensor but I'm getting a crackling noise from behind the pod (when it is giving me funny numbers - there is no sound when Reading 0mph)

To anyone who has had to have sender change, did you hear the crackling noise or is it worth me taking the pod off to see if there us something wrong with the wiring??

Sounds like a connection problem behind the pod? Have you tried disconnecting/reconnecting the cables? If you find another reason for the crackling (like some pork bits stuffed in there), then the sensor does go sometimes, it sits on the rear diff.

I had the same thing when my speedo sensor failed - I did check the wiring on the back of the pod and all was well - changing the sensor fixed the issue.

cheers - did you have the 'crackling' sound therefore decided to check the wiring or did you decide to check the wiring anyway??

Currently in south of France on holiday so don't want to really spend my time trying to fix the car unless I really think it's going to help - the missus already thinks I'm giving the Sag too much attention!!!!

The crackling and speedo problem were co-incident, I thought that it was a loose connection and that the crackling was in some way related.

I'm not 100% sure as I didn't bother investigating further but I think the noise might actually be a cooling fan on the back of the pod. My guess is that the crazy figures coming from the speedo sensor cause the pod and especially the speedo motor to work over-hard and therefore overheat.

But that might be complete bks!
