Sagaris values
Discussion
Given that I'm getting diddly-squat return on my savings at the moment, I was thinking about buying a Sagaris for a year or two. So, is it going to plummet in value? What if (ho-ho-bleeding-ho) TVR actually manage to start building them again?
Is this a dumb idea? Replies from the head, please, since heart says "YEAH!!!" Especially since I have to convince The Management.

Providing you keep a Sag in good condition, it is very unlikely to go down in value to the forseeable future.
Generally, Sags are appreciating in value slightly. There was an article in one of the Sunday newspapers recently which suggested that the Sagaris is one of the few cars which is currently going up in value.
I have a large portion of my Saving tied in in the Sag. Interest rates mean its not worth having the cash in the bank, so instead I have a very rare and awesome car which isn't really costing me anything.
Do it - you won't regret it.

I was talking to my local ex-TVR dealer two weeks ago. His opinion was that prices for the Sag, due to its exclusivity, would mean prices exceeding the "new" value in the next couple of years. Whilst I think this is optomistic I also think he is right in that prices will increase.
To put it another way when I was last thinking "what would I replace the Sag with?" the answer was there was nothing for the money that has the visual impact, performance, rarity and smile value - enough said.

Just remember it will still cost you around £2k p.a. to run one
Good point, and a sum of money not to be ignored.Well I'm gutted to say that I sold my Sagaris 2 years ago and I could probably sell it again today for about £4k more
It's a good thing for owners, not so good if you are looking to buy. My own personal view is that the Sag's will hold their value unless by some miracle TVR started building them again, highly unlikely me thinks......
The thing to remember about the Sag is that it was the last TVR model made and probably has the best build quality (along with the Tuscan 2). Due to the limited numbers, you're never going to see the market flooded with them, therefore, hopefully for values, demand will always out-strip supply.

I bought mine from Racing Green (and thus paid a premium to ensure I got what I wanted, with some warranty)
Given the current prices in the classified section, I've lost about 14% of its value.
Not bad for 2 1/2 years ago, double the miles (to 20k) and if you take out the premium I paid for it.. its probably almost the same value tbh.. My yearly running cost is £1k per year (I do a full 12k service each year and to replace only the engine mounts so far)
Having said that, I won't be selling it... and I'm pretty sure most other owners now are in the "keepers" section of the community, meaning the classified section will host less and less cars..
Last year (from memory) 8 to 12 cars were present, its only 4 to 6 this summer..

Had exactly this conversation yesterday about my T350 - one of the reasons I chose the Targa Red Rose is rarity and therefore increased likelihood it won't plummet in value. A chap in the pub scoffed at my reasoning, but was quieter when I asked him how many £50k cars are still fetching close to 50% of their original retail value when 6 years old? I don't know the details for Sags but I'm sure they are just as good or better. I think in future you'll see a two-speed market for TVRs: the plentiful Chims and Cerbs will have a bit of an issue with the tatty examples drifting down to the £10k mark, where people can afford to buy them, and maybe insure them, but not look after them properly, so even though the better examples will fetch a premium, the image overall will be tarnished. Don't see that happening with 350s, Sags and Mk 2 Tuscans, which I think will hold value overall better.

I agree with most of what you say, but note that early Tamoras are approaching £10k territory, whats to stop T350s doing the same (for the tatty ones - and they are out there). Luckily it seems most buyers are planning on fixing them up and not just running them on a tight budget.Targarama said:

Feck, and here was me thinking about getting rid of the Chim and going for a track day car.... instead of getting rid of the Chim, and having a 4.5 Tamora trackday toy... (obviously a few £k difference, before the engine!)S6 ROR said:
There is a silver Sag 05 plate, just appeared in the classifieds for £22,000. Must be a mis print, surely?
Tempted to jump in the car and add to the collection at that price
Yep, no pics of numberplate and the photo looks like it was taken outside TVR Mads. I think perhaps the car doesn't actually exist and is in fact a scam...Tempted to jump in the car and add to the collection at that price

Good point, and a sum of money not to be ignored.I was recently offered 63% of the new purchase price of my 2005 Sag by a main dealer. Serviced every year and now done ~22K miles. Can't think of another car I've owned the value of which has held up so well after 5 years!
I should have added - no intention of selling!

I know of a 5 year old Sagaris with an agreed insurance loss valuation of £72,000 on it, and another 4 year old one with £68,000 agreed.
So, look after them and they will look after you!

You can add one more to your list of that sort of amount unless you already have included mine.
