Hello, another question as I get used to the car.

From cold the Tam will always fire up easily and with a few blips to 1500rpm and a hold at 1800rpm for a few seconds it will usually then be happy enough to idle grumpily until warmer. Sometimes though whilst maneuvering out of the garage it will stall/cut out and it can be the devils own job to get it started again.

It did it this morning and took nearly 10 attempts to get it going again - without trying to flood it or kill the starter motor. As it was doing this I could occasionally see the odd vapour from the bonnet vent on the left, the EFI warning code flashed up for half a second a couple of times and when it did fire there was a cloud of oily smoke.

Normal or does it need a little tweak?

Thanks

Damian

If you flooded it it can be an arse to start. I remove the supply to the fuel pump to clear then try again, but its rare I have this problem, normally fires first time evry time even after a stall.

When's the next service due? Mine was ok for the first 1k or so after the service, then the idling gradually got worse. I've just adjusted it and reset the throttles and maps and she's much happier when cold and generally running much better. Having said that when she did stall she fired up again no bother and no smoke.

When it stalls after a cold start and is then hard to start it is because the engine is flooding. It sounds like a bit of a tune up might be needed if the revs drop to a stall with you being extra careful not to stall it. Or it could just be you needing to get used to the sensitivity of the first part of the throttle pedal??

Okay, thanks chaps. My assumption was it could be flooding as it does reek of poorly burned petrol for the first couple of minutes. At least on my old Rover 3.5 cobra I had a manual choke to play with, same deal though, you got to learn how much it needed and when. And how long you needed to drive it from cold to get the gearbox oil warm so second could be engaged....
