Does any of you kind souls know which way to unscrew gear knob, the locking nut underneath unscrews no probs but the top will not budge. What methods are there? have new Leven knob so i can use brute force to remove round standard one.

You need a rubber strap wrench.

It Unscrews the normal way (anti clockwise)
