hot air in a t350

even though I have aircon, which works fine, I am a little puzzled by the heating system in this car.

with air con off, temperature setting on cold I get cold air through the dash vents, but still get roasting hot air leaking through the footwell vents, but if the temp is set cold why am I getting hot air in the footwell?
I assume it must be something to do with the flaps in the heater system, it seems to me that cold air is only available through the dash vents, so maybe the only cure for this would be to fit a valve into the heater intake pipe under the bonnet, anyone else had these experiences?

I have read Grahams manual and the valve seems the only option, but no mention of why cold air in the dash vents only.

The ventilation is separated into two parts. The two dash vents and the passenger's knee vent are either 'outside' air or aircon if switched on. If you look at the design you can see that the whole dash area housing the glovebox and stereo is actually a single air supply conduit. The second part is the two windscreen and footwell vents. These are the ones the temperature control dial affects (or is supposed to). If you have a badly adjusted flap, or a fault flap motor (which I had recently), you will notice that once the car is fully warmed through you get hot air through these vents whatever the dial position - then the hot air 'fights' the cold aircon vents and they neutraise each other :-)

So, check the flap settings, if not then if could be a faulty flap motor - mine did this. Once Jason's team replaced the motor things were back to super chilly normal.

Ah, so if I check/change the fap settings I should be checking the temperature through the footwell, windscreen vents, not the dash vents. and if no difference in temperature then the flap motor could be faulty?

Yup, set aside an afternoon for playing around with the flap settings! Every car seems to have its own setting and it took a while to find ours. Finally sorted it and it's much better.

Can you get in touch with the last owner if you know them, as they will know whether it was set up properly before. If it was then I would suggest a faulty flap. £258 for Jason's team to replace (2 hours labour - removing and resealing the painted cover in the engine bay).

I'm sure someone will come along and say it doesn't take that long etc. personally I'm not touching Silkaflex - evil stuff

Easy!! Get Graham Varleys Bible, possibly and honestly the best, detailed and profesionally put together manual i have ever bought!

The fix for this prob is in there too. Ive done it myself and its worked . Bloody brilliant!

The air to the blower passes through the passsenger wing . There ia a removable panel that ensure the air is fed from the vent below the headlamp . If this is missing the air passing through the rad will go through.

I have this problem too. However, with the blower set to cold and the windows up there is very little hot air leakage to the screen vents. If you open the windows or have the roof off though, hot air poors through the screen vents at the same time.

I have the divider plastic man mentioned and its all stuck in place as it should be, I have watched the flap under the cover move and it appears to move full range from cold to hot. I am a bit stuck for ideas now as to what can be wrong. The air on the screen vents does not seem to be 'forced' like at the face level vents, so its leaking from somewhere, anybody any ideads?
