Alternative air filters?
Discussion
Morning all,
I know this was asked by another user a while back (and nobody really answered) but I have an itching to modify/replace the stock air box.
I have improved the stock box when I swapped the filter out and started venting the oil tank to atmos (via filter) but I want to try something different.
I know you can get the rather nice looking ACT carbon box and that may be the best option but...
What about individual filters on each tb? or possibly a sealed box feeding to a cone filter fed from the front of the car?
Has anyone done this or have experience of it on other cars? if I went for individual filters, I'd have to do something about the temps / hot air being drawn in unless I could get a few good cold air pipes to that area.
Any thoughts, would like to hear opinions

What is your goal? Improving airflow and subsequent performance? The standard air filter and box assembly seems to handle enough flow for 400hp at 7,000rpm. I guess you could change the air intake location, someone with a blue T350 inserted a 'ram air' vent into the front panel instead of sucking small creatures from the ground.
Tempting area to improve on most engines, but you'll find that the plenum that this large airbox provides & individual radiused trumpet intakes inside are perfect for maximising flow. The intake volume it allows is way beyond what even the recent 4.5 engines need at max rpm.
This was an easy & relatively cheap aspect of the engine for TVR to perfect, alternatives wouldn't be as good, esp individual inlets as they would rob the flow of the beneficial effects of a plenum

I see your points there. Maybe a good compromise would be a ram air effect front vent as per the image (thanks for that), mated to the act carbon box?
The carbon airbox is very nice indeed, and bl00dy expensive. I wouldn't want to be cutting and shutting one after spending all that money. Plus, modifying the front end for the intake will result in a nose respray being needed.A lot of effort for minimal, if any gain (esp. without a remap).
