Upgrading Audio
Discussion
Since the standard audio is next to useless I will be upgrading both the head unit and the speakers.
I do not really want to go putting holes in the door cards of the T350 as there are no speakers in there.
But it seems pointless upgrading the small rear speakers and then adding a subwoofer in the very near future.
The highs need to come before the lows.
I have tried to find threads with pictures of audio installs but as the search is not currently working I cannot find any.
Does any have or know of any pictures of installs just to give me a little inspiration?
Thanks
Dorian

I don't have any pictures of mine but i have speakers in the door cards with tweeters and a better speaker in the rear plus new head unit and just this basic set up is a big improvement.
I remember seeing a thread with PHer Barry Ashcrofts Tam in it which looked a good install. Carl Baker is the guy to speak to about TVR audio.

http://www.tvruk.tv/index.cfm seems to have good recommendations from many TVR owners.
Sounds like most of the info you need may be found in this recent post:

Install some tweeters high up in the doorcards, some mids down by the doorcard pocket if you feel like it but they're not really needed. Stick some better rear speakers in and you should notice a reasonable improvement. Upgrading your headunit tends to make a big difference too, although I haven't bothered (yet).
As Grant pointed you to the other thread about subs etc. I shant say much, except that it really does make a big difference. It needn't sound 'Boomy' at all, it's all down to set-up and personal preference. I'm really glad I took the time to install one and I'm chuffed to bits with it! Sounds fantastic from heavy rock, through to jazz and classical.

Did my Tam after getting some inspiration from Bazzer. No holes in my front door cards, but a bit of patience, lots of analysing, measuring and thinking. Masking tape and a pencil really helps. Measure several times and cut once. Had a few trips to Screwfix for some sharp Stanley blades and a 4in holesaw, which soon had mid-range in the bottom of the front doors. Covered the holes with some flexi plastic covered with black felt from the local art & craft shop. Tweets were easier. A bit of silicon stuck the crossovers on the inside too.
Standard rears swapped for Alpine SPG three way 6x9s - had to use my small angle grinder with a 1mm cutting disc to razzle my way round the cut-out profile I needed. No amp fitted, as I'm told it'll throw up interference as the Tiv's electrical system is poorly suppressed, but sound is reasonable now - at least speakers in the front and rear now means I can actually hear music with the roof down - but so can everyone else if I'm to hear it over the TVR Power Sports Cans....
I'll try and find some pix if you want to see more.

Hope this helps....

Bought Alpine SPG 13CS components for the front doors, only to find the mids were too big to shape around the profile of the door card at 130mm dia. Used tweeters and crossovers from this set, then bought a pair of Alpine SPE 1002 10cm speakers to use in the bottom of the doors. Bought a 102mm holesaw from screwfix to make the right sized hole for the 10cm speakers using the template that came with them - the smaller tweeters were easy enough to mount. Took me a couple of evenings to sort.

Oh, and the head unit is an iDA-X100 Alpine that allows me to run my ipod and usb sticks through it. Job done.

Thanks for that Geoff, makes things a little clearer.
I have since fitted a new Alpine head unit and some better speakers in the rear.
Sound is improved but I think I will need to do more to achieve what I want.
One question about the speaker in the door card.
I see that it is put in the area of the door card pocket. What is used to seal up the pocket??

I cut a piece of plastic out of a curved container, which was flexible and easy to trim to the right size. Then glued black felt to it, giving the required colour finish for inside the pocket to match my trim and then I simply stuck it in place with silicone.
Simple, but highly effective, I like it.Gassing Station | Tamora, T350 & Sagaris | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
