Help, dead battery - options?
Discussion
Now then, who's been a silly boy? Who has an accumate sat on the shelf in his garage, who thought I haven't had the Tam out for 2 weeks, maybe I should put it on charge. Who then put it on charge and nothing happened?
Yes, I'm a pillock, battery is as flat as a witch's tit and will not accept charge. What are my options here? Will it take a charge from one of those booster packs (though I don't have one), jumping seems to be out of the option unless I can find some 10ft jump leads, so am I looking at shelling out for a new battery?
All suggestions will be gratefully accepted - and that includes taping a "Put the car on charge" sign on the garage door.

I would......
1) Keep it on charge
2) Add a flying lead with easy external acess to plug your charger in
3) Make some custom jump leads
I did none of the above and also have a flat battery after being in the States so for a few weeks. I am also locked out because guess where Shep left the charger & jump leads.... yep in the bl00dy boot!
Three guesses as to what my next post will be....

I'll try sticking the accumate on again, but normally when it goes on you get the red led to say it's on and the other little led comes on to say it's charging, this time there's no little led to say it's charging. Sadly
Trying to avoid the palaver of jacking the car up, getting the wheel off and dismantling the wheel arch to remove the battery

Have you got a set of anderson plugged jump leads and a 'normal' battery charger? Could be worth connecting them overnight to give the battery a bit of a kick start.Trying to avoid the palaver of jacking the car up, getting the wheel off and dismantling the wheel arch to remove the battery
I am in the same situ as you car has been off the road for 2 months I charged the battery on a decent charger for 2 days has been in car for 600 miles now and does not have enough power to start when it's hot. Cold is ok. The optimate after 2 whole days is still saying battery is flat.
I also get the power warning on the dash when i try to start it when hot.

No other leads and no other charging method. I've read that once a battery hits zero it's often the end for it. Previous toy was a Cobra and I let my charging regime slip (though it would hold charge alot longer than a trevor), no life at all, stuck it on the charger and left overnight .Came back next day, fuel pump primed so sounded good, turned the key and click. Dead. New battery needed.
So you can see I've got form in the wazzock stakes

yep, i had the same thing a while back with mine, always let me down when hot.I also get the power warning on the dash when i try to start it when hot.
draw a plan of the battery (ie size and pos/neg layout) and take to your local motor factors, not halfrauds, and they will sort you out with a suitable battery for little money. dont bother with the super high cranking amphere nonsense, its rubbish, and costly. standard battery has been fine for the last 18 months and still going strong
Had this with my Tamora when I left the boot lid ajar for 3 days by mistake
. The battery was completely dead and the Tam didn't even turn over, so I tried the accumate but the battery would not start charging (amber light didn't come on), so I called the AA as I have home start on my policy. They put a booster charger on the battery and it was enough to get the accumate charging the battery again. We got the Tam started, then I took it out for a long run followed by an overnight charge with the accumate. Job done
.
Interestingly enough the AA chap had a catalog of all the batteries on the market, and it stated the minimum voltage for charging my battery was 2.4V. The dead battery was measured at 1V. So I think that if the battery voltage falls below the minimum charging voltage then the accumate won't charge it.

Would leaving the alarm off prolong the battery life i.e. longer than 2 weeks?
I have a CTEK 3600 which is the modern equivalent of the Accumate (40 GBP off ebay - new) The CTEK will take a battery from a flat state and rejuvinate (apparently?)Shep
