ECU failure T350c

The passenger door ECU on my T350 keeps failing. I can unplug it and it works for a while then trips again. It does this without me using the door or boot.
Any ideas please?

make sure the ECU doesnt smell like its burnt out, check for water in the ECU, check the pins as some tend to melt causing a bad connection, change the ecu. Also try a door encoder

The T350 is under a foot of snow just now so it may be a day or two before it emerges!
What is a door encoder?
