The Pyrenees and Andorra

Hi All

I've booked the Tamora on the ferry to Bilboa from Portsmouth for this summer, and plan to drive through Spain to the Pyrenees and Andorra, before going on to the S. of France, then back home via St. Malo.

Be great to hear from anyone that has traveled via the Pyrenees or Northern Spain before and to any good driving roads to pick for the trip, any recommendations for tasty hotels would be good to hear about as well.

I've done the same ferry route but dropped down through Spain and Portugal instead so not really your way but if you can fit in a de-tour then I highly recommend going over the Picos de Europa mountains and then dropping down into Leon - did those roads in my old T350c and they were made for TVR's!!!

Try the route 'Tet'..from Perpignan (D916) towards Andorra...Amazing road

Last summer I went to the LM Classic, then on a round trip to Malaga in Spain.

On the way down we overnighted in Mont-de-Marsan, then over the Pyrennees at Pau and onwards to Zaragoza for night #2
Day #3 saw us head to Madrid then directly South to Granada and on to our Spanish home.

On the way back we followed the med coast road to Valencia. Day 2 took us to Barcelona then up to Andorra where we stayed overnight. The following day saw us back in the Le Mans area the on our last night we were in Bayeaux in preparation for the early morning ferry home.

If you want any information, don't hesitate to ask. i have load of pictures and will be happy to re-live the memories.

As for hotels, the Paradores of Spain are an absolute must.

We stayed in the Parador at Siguenza near Zaragoza. The place was incredible and just like an old castle.

Thanks for the tips, I'm looking forward to planning this trip. Ian, I see our garages are similar, I also have a Defender as my daily (brilliant dog car, mobile skip and delivery van!), I got rid of my BMWs and the wife now has a Merc CLK, but I would prefer another 330i.

The Pyrennes are absolutely fantastic.

Andorra is a long shopping arcade with petrol stations at either end and full of pikeys wanting bargains. Unless you want a new camera, watch or a lot of cigars I'd avoid it tbh.
