T350 Insurance and alarm specification
Discussion
I know insurance is probably asked about regularly, can anybody point me to who is competitive at the moment. I have been quoted around £1200 for garaged, 5K miles, fully comp from Flux.
Also does any body know what the factory fitted alarm/immobiliser is, i.e. Cat 1 Thatcham or what. Again probably been asked before but the forums are difficult to search through.
Thanks Chaps

MSM Insurance
Edit: Typo - my fingers are to fat for the keyboard
+1 for MSM on price. Not had to claim but they are top notch for customer service. Mention you are a member of Pistonheads and there is an extra discount, I think the same discount applies if you are a TVR club member (you don't get both though!)Edit: Typo - my fingers are to fat for the keyboard

No chance with the alarm passing as a CAT1 system as you don't have a certificate for the install. Been there done that. If you have a tracker & the installation certificate this is usually good enough.

+ 2 for MSM for price and customer service. Don't be put off by slightly quirky website!
I just renewed; previously with Flux, who to be fair had by far the best price last year, but gave me an insane renewal quote this year!! I'm 36, 8 years no claims, rural postcode; quotes were for fully comp - my research led to the following:
Flux - £833 (5K miles; inc £15 PA cover, £52 breakdown cover and £14 keycare)
Heritage - £833 (5K miles; assistant said modern TVR's seen as high risk and therefore loaded premiums)
A-One - £791 (7.5K miles) or £680 (5K miles)
Classic Line - £568 (5K - high excess with this policy @ £500)
Mannings - £581 (7K miles) or £489 (5K miles) - must say Lee @ Mannings was excellent and their TVROC policy includes 45 days European cover, track days covered and use of repairers of your choice.
Henderson Taylor -(Lost the will to phone another company at this point!)
Richard Eggar -(As above!)
MSM £490 (7.5K miles!) - winner! I was after higher mileage allowance, low XS and choice of repairer in event of problems. As I do not track the car the added 'bonus' in a Mannings Policy was not needed. Rest of MSM policy met my needs. Speak to Dawn, she was fantastic.

Hope this helps.

I suppose the next question has to be.. Were TVR Thatcham approved installers? Anybody know?
So far as I am aware no. You need the specific certificate for the vehicle the alarm is installed in to claim it as a CAT 1 alarm. Basically if the car was nicked the insurance might not pay so not worth it.As I said if you have a tracker that should be Thatcham certified and satisfy the insurance

Cheers Shep,
I can see your point, funny though I rang round a 3 insurance co's today and only one asked about thatcham cat 1, best go with one that doesn't spec it then.
John
Its OK to tell them you have an Alarm/immob system and quote the make/model but to claim its Thacham approved requires the installer to be registered and you to have the certificate. Its like trackers, they might ask do you have one installed but its needs to be active for it to count.I can see your point, funny though I rang round a 3 insurance co's today and only one asked about thatcham cat 1, best go with one that doesn't spec it then.

We all know how insurance companies like to wiggle out of paying…
