Ok it may not be to everyone's taste, but I got the idea of exposing the back end of the car from the Elise/Exige brigade. I really like it and think it evens up and lightens the back of the car so it doesn't look as lardy!

I got the tie rods from Carbon Mods and had the diffuser resprayed (after I'd repaired the fibre glass) in Moonraker black along with the seat backs. I also replaced all the bolts (as I am doing all over the car) with stainless items.

It was easy to fit in the end, the cans (JP exhaust) came up mirror finish with just some cleaning and a buffing wheel. I also restored the paint behind the exhaust and fitted a US plate to a lightweight bike plate holder which is fully adjustable.

If you look at the photos, it doesn't look symetrical, that's due to the exhaust not being central, or the bodywork for that matter! hand built cars are great aren't they?

Looks awesome mate! I have been considering a mod along these lines but since I had the shield powdercoated thought I would leave it for a bit.. well done for being different. I also want to replace my bolts under the diffuser where did you get them from? I already have the stainless cam cover ones and seat back ones etc. what other mods do you have in the pipeline? I have enjoyed reading your blog lately

While I was looking at a carbon diffuser the Lotus solution came up (god bless google images) and I thought it'd be worth a go. It's completely reversible, incase the day comes when the car leaves me.

I got the bolts from a fantastic hardware store in Camberley. I go in almost daily with random bolts from the car and so far, they just re-appear with whatever I've asked for and just ask 'how many?'

If you want some, let me know and I'll get the details.

Other mods, apart from a bit more carbon are in the engine bay, nothing major smile

Glad someone is reading the blog, I did one for my last car purely as a log of what I did, this one's the same..always smile when someone comments on it!

Diablo, the carbon bits have gone a bit quiet due to nobody coming up with cash to join me, the only part I'm funding possibly at the moment is the glovebox lid, more on that in the coming weeks.

Hoping to get the seats back in tomorrow and then possibly get her fired up and go for a spin.

Personally, I think that oversized bucket looks a bit precarious balanced on that shelf. Otherwise, excellent wink

I guess the fact that if the cans got that hot (there's around 3-5cm gap to the plate) I'd have more to worry about biggrin

I've considered doing my own blog but thought it was just easier to start my journal thread in the readers car section instead. is it easy to set up a blog and upload photos etc? rregarding the bolts i will probably do what you did and just take the bolts into a local store. keep up the good work!

Which is unlike me...I usually start doing things, get all excited and then realise I've done something very wrong frown

Will get a photo of the distance/gap.

Setting up a blog is one of the easiest things in the world, if you have webspace and it supports a database and php etc, just go to wordpress.com and download their blog software for free. It takes about 10 mins to setup and is very easy to use. I just upload all my photos to a tamora folder on my hosting site. It helps when you sell a car I think as people can view the entire ownership history in one place. My last car, that started out as a £750 Toyota Starlet Turbo (www.night-spirit.co.uk/ep82_blog) sell on car from a friend, through the blog and people getting to know it, when I stripped the little monster I made over £12,000! that car pretty much paid for my TVR ownership ticket smile

That looks bloody awesome, took the plate etc off recently and loved the exposed can look, nice to see a practical solution to supporting the "bottom shelf"!

Very tempted!

I take it you used existing holes apart from the plate holder?

The existing holes for the heatshield didn't work for this, I made 6 holes in total, 2 for the plate holder (hidden beneath the plate lights) using nutserts, 2 to the outside of the plate lights for the tie rods and 2 in the diffuser for the tie rods.

If you wanted to revert, you'd need to fill the holes and spray the diffuser which is about £100.
