Trackday this Saturday - tyre pressures

Hi all,

I'm over at Brands Hatch on Saturday on a MSV day (doing Help for Heros), and the weather is supposed to be between 0-2 degrees (but dry!).

What tyre pressures should I be running? Normal, due to the cold?

I believe so (MSV are running the trackday).

I called in to Brands last week whilst there was a track day on. The gate was personned (better not say manned given the example set by Sky Sports ) and I asked if I could have a look in and it was totally open.

There is a novice day next month that I am interested in and I popped-in as I was nearby and hoping that I could get a sound check on the car. The paddock was completely deserted!

I was also interested in the differences between novice and open track day. There seemed to be some dedicated racing cars on the open pit lane, which probably wouldnt be there for the novice day.

At this time of year you'll be struggling to overheat the tyres before sliding off the track

IMO you should aim to keep the pressures at 24-25psi when hot (i.e. check pressures when you come in from a session). You may find the left hand side tyres are higher pressure when hot, so adjust them so they're even.

Remember to put the pressures back up if needed for the drive home.
