front end respray

hi guys i am thinking about getting the front of my sag sprayed due to a couple of small stone chips because i am ultra fussy!!!! can anyone recommend the best place to get this done thanks

Call Adrian at Central TVR (Stourbridge). Dom @ TVR Power uses him. He did front cone & splitters plus the rear diffuser for stonechips on my purple pearl Sag. I was in the paint refininsh business as a lad and the work/finish by Adrian was faultless. His bodyshop is the cleanest I've seen (which is vital when it comes to painting) and I found his quote to be very competitive (after some slight negotiation). Adrian had one of the earliest TVR dealerships in the country. It's about 110 miles from Cardiff though.

what sort of money are you looking at for a nose respray? mine could do with being done, its black if that makes much differance?

spoke to mike and malcolm at surface and designs today top guys and they seem to really know there stuff but because my sag is red glow pearl its not an easy job and far from cheap as they would need to do the complete front end of the car to make it perfect but from what people are saying the job will be done correctly and perfectly by them!!!!!!what shall i do? also i spoke to them about armourfending the front once painted to protect against any future stone chips which can be arranged through them but this couldnt be done for two after the car has been painted!!!

Correct. My understanding is that in the event that the Armorfend needs to come off (damage etc.), it will take the paint with it if the paint hasn't cured properly. I had my respray locally (Moonraker black less problematic than yours) then drove slowly back to the garage and laid it up for the requisite 2 weeks before Armorfend came out. Ideally, that too wants to be applied in a paint booth. Know anybody with a trailer?

IIRC, Simon George or Sir Harry of EVO fame needed to transport their car to Armourfend after a front end respray, and they covered the nose with vaseline to stop any stone chips. It worked!

hi guys i am glad its not just me as i was saying to the wife if i am going to take the car to blackpool to have front sprayed due to 3 small stone chips as i am just mega fussy and want the car right i am going to buy a trailer to transport her back and for due to the fact my car has only done 4700 miles from new and i have bought it as an investment and i wanted one!!!!she didnt look to pleased but there we go she now wants a holiday!!!!to the same value that i will be spending on car and trailer argh!!!anyway surface and design really do seem to have the best reputation for tvr paintwork in the country and because it is one of the hardest colours to spray(red glow pearl)malcolm who does the spraying at surface and design was one of the 3 painters who were at the tvr factory so he is the man for the job also he did say there are 3 different shades of red glow but he has all the info from the factory which will tell him which shade my car is from the chasis number so it looks like i am of to blackpool in about 3 weeks!!!

yes have thought about that and the fact there were such limited numbers of sags made and they are no longer made and from what i have been told tvr will never be re-born i think they may fall in price but long term will start to appreciate in value i have been told by a couple of tvr dealers that a proper car with low miles fsh in years to come could be worth more than they cost new but who knows if only we had a crystal ball!!!!thanks guys!!

I was told that the 2 week week was so that the paint 'dried' off properly, and no bubbles formed underneath it.

I'd recommend speaking to PHer Guam who runs Paintshield, done many PH cars including mine - top job.

I had to wait 2 weeks, then covered the front in masking tape to protect it, then drove it up to Peterborough.

When I had my t350 the front was redone at the factory due to a paint reaction and I also had it paintshielded. The first trip back up the motorway gave a big chip just half an inch above the paintshield - well pissed off at the time
