When I got my Tam part of the deal was having the rear window re-done by the chaps in Blackpool as it had the common crease/wear/holes from rubbing and folding when the roof was down. When I was at an event last year I noticed a lot of the Griff owners had rolled up towels or thin draught excluder type affairs dropped onto their window as it had been folded. The result was they had a curve instead of a crease and no rubbing.

Is this a common way to tackle the problem or just an excuse for a) carrying a towel to mop up leaks or b) Griff owners to carry a tartan rug in their cars hehe

Get a smaller rear window then its not a problem. Barry Ashcroft has had it done. Problem with the towel is that if you give it propper beans it will make a bid for freedom, lost mine on the M25 the other year, about 1.2 leptons should do it.

Thanks for the replies chaps and that hood of yours looks great Barry, bit late with the reply but having been having it out with BT for a month with our non-functioning phone line. Chap finally replaced a corroded cable on the pole today. Bloody Indian call centres

Hi Barry can I ask a few questions with regards to the hood of your car.
I have noticed all the thread around the screen in my car is coming away so it will need looking at.
Can I ask who did the work on your car?
Did you take the hood off yourself and send it away or did a garage do it for you?
Who did you send it to?
How long was it away?
And was it expensive?
Once I have these small jobs done I will feel happy to bring her out to the shows and the meetings.

Thanks CP

I'm afraid I also have a question for Barry...

I am assuming that the new rear hood/screen comprised of the screen and fabric portion being done?
If so, do the guys that you used to do this provide a re-covering service for the removable roof panel too?
I wouldn't want an obvious 'new and old' colour match between the two is what I'm thinking.

thanks in advance..

I just got quoted £920+ VAT (locally) to re-cover the targa panel and replace the rear section with new to include the smaller screen. Seems expensive, I have an idea what Barry paid from when he had it done and it was nowhere near that but I don't know if he had the targa panel covered or not. The company that did it was local to him I think it might be worth a trip over even accounting for fuel & a hotel etc it will still be cheaper than what I was quoted.

On my V8S I use a bit of the grey foam pipewrap insulation to stuff down the hood when its folded down. Probably not quite as good as a towel but it doesn't hold any moisture if it gets wet and I won't be gutted if it gets lost.

Yikes. That's a bit rich for me.
I was thinking more around the £500 mark tbh.
If anyone else gets any quotes can they post them.
I'm Hampshire based but happy to travel (as suggested)

I think that what Barry paid but I don't know if that included covering the targa panel. I won't be paying that much either. If we can find somewhere cheaper that will do a good job maybe they will do discount for two?

£900+ does seem expensive. I'm having mine done at D&C in Blackpool later this month. Have been quoted £620, which includes the targa panel recovering.

Had the entire roof recovered

Done by Guy Broom of West Country Trimers in Newton Abbot
01626833722

Took the car down there he had it for a few days

Cost £400+vat

The hood bar had also started to sag so he sorted that out as well for £75

That was May 2009 so price might be more now
