Battery not taking charge

A quick bit of advice needed please!
My Sag has a flat battery (totally dead, can't even unlock the car), and is not taking charge. I believe all my connections are good, so am working on the assumption that the battery has given up the ghost, and I need to replace it.
Before I buy a new one, is there any other obvious thing I should check before splashing the cash?
And if not, I think I read somewhere that the right size battery is difficult to get. Does anyone know who has them in stock?

Sounds like a dead battery. Trickle charging is the way forward if sat for over 2 weeks. If you have a battery charger (different to trickler) just volt test the battery to see if it's taking charge.
Can you not fit the Varley style race batteries to our cars? some of them are more than capable of handling the draw, they're light weight and they're non liquid/stronger/better than normal acid batteries.

Fitted an ABXAGM model AX D26R Battery from performancebatteries.co.uk into my T350 and it fitted like a glove and clamped in using correct fittings. Unlike the Varta I took out that was wedged in. Believe the Sag is the same box size.
Expensive at just shy of £100 but is a 750amp battery (biggest you can get in that case size) and was delivered the next day charged up ready to go. Don't go with the usual Halfords rubbish, they don't fit.

Just in answer to the questions - yes, tried charging. All electrics totally dead (fob, immobiliser, etc), there isnt a doubt in my mind its a flat battery. The issue is the battery will not seem to take charge.

Where can I find out more on these race batteries?lol. Guess what i done today? 
Fitted new battery to my Sag myself today, easy enough job to do. Mine was not completely dead i could still get lights on dash, open doors (just) so thought id get a new one on their pronto.
On test the turn over was the quickest ive ever heard! Well chuffed! In fact see my French Mastiff pup was having a look and inspecting my work, pointing me in the direction. Hes a good boy!!!!!
