I'm sure this is about on here somewheres.... but can anyone point me the right way to ripping out the 1920's headlights they have in the Tam, and getting some new age units.

Is plastic man the chap for this? I have seen a few with this mod, one of which being the au5tech Tam.

Places and prices would be great! I live near gatwick so the closer the better.

Thanks,

Stu

What's up with fitting a HID kit? (assuming its performance thats the issue) Did mine two years ago now works purfect, no MOT issues spot on alignment so they are not antisocial and the best bit is I can see where I am going. £110 and about 2hrs to install.

Thanks for the tips. I was looking at HID kits, but I really dont like the look of those old units. I personally think that the wipers, and those light units are the only things on the car that show its 'built like a TVR'... the T350 and the sag win here. I'd like to rectify that.

I dont really want to butcher the car with T350 lights, but the back of the units and the bulbs could be used my plastic man.

Show yourself plastic man...

I think a move away from the as built lamps will detract from it future value as a TVR (they aint gonna make any more of the Tamora) plus I seem to recall a yellow tam with T350 lamps looking rather chavvy and unloved for sale not too long ago. JMO

I'm not so sure. I think some after market mods are ok, after all how many of us have fitted Nitrons, engine upgrades etc? The majority of them I don't think will add much to the value, high end mods excepted. As long as they are done well, I think it adds to the uniqueness of each car. Not everyone will want one that isn't factory standard though.

Ah, that'll be the one I bought not long ago wink You are right, the wheels and plates need changing irked Once I'm over the cost of a house/job move, will be sorted. Personally, I really like the T350 lights. Probably wouldn't have fitted them on another car, but that said, they are a lot better than the standard units for seeing where I'm going at night.

Ooops each to thier own. As to shocks/springs engines being tweaked they are all maintenance /wear and tear items so will need to be replaced at some point with what ever is available at the time.. And will anyone cry that a t350/tam is missing its original HB springs and shocks (which you can't see) I doubt it. That said I have the originals off mine, kept for justin.

No worries biggrin If it was the wheels and plates you didn't like, couldn't agree more. Fair comment about upgrading consumables though.

No, I'm not on for butching the car and turning into some TVR mongral (it never ever works imo... Not for the long run). What I want has been done before on Tams as well as chim's Griff's etc. Its to basically put in the backing of a T350\Sag light unit (with glass fibre work) then paint it black (as like it was\is) then replace the Tam headlight cover. The car looks the same overall, but its got good light units behind the lens.... Not some old rusty units from a 70's white van. Plus it must save a bit of weight get those old glass beasts out.

Have to say I don't know how much work would be needed, but having driven a couple of Tamoras with standard lights, I'd be inclined to up the power somewhat..

What I would say though is to take a look at the wiring if you do this. If you simply put in higher wattage bulbs, you could blow/melt all sorts of wiring, fuses, relays etc. Happened to me when I bought my first TVR - chap I bought it from upgraded the bulbs literally just before I picked it up. Took me a while to work out what the constant burning smell was at night..

happened to notice in the tvr mag from a couple of years ago there is a pic of a tam on silvertone tvr ad which has a twin light conversion in the original perspex cover which looks nice and subtle.

This is what I will be doing next year with mine. Unfortunately I have already spent my budget for the tam this year!

That looks very familiar - although considerably cleaner than it is now.. I'd be interested in the source of the photo BTW..

For me, I really like the look. Afraid I have absolutely no idea how much this cost or who did the work. The dealer I bought it from thought it was factory fitted, but it clearly is not. The lights are considerably better than the other Tamoras I've been in/driven at night, but they were probably with standard lights.

The car had front end damage and was repaired with the facelift front and the new lights at the same time. See Fibreon website, they did the work.

IMO the T350 lights dont lend themselves to the Tam lines... it ruins the front end 'smoothness' for me.
