I have an almost irresistible urge to buy a Tamora to replace my S2000... I love the s but I've had a ridiculously nagging TVR itch ever since I laid eyes on one... Apparently enough to overcome the reliability issues and lack of ABS/Airbags.

But please put me off this idea by telling me how much of a pita it would be to own such a thing, particularly in Glasgow, when all the re-builders (apparently it WILL break down) seem to live far far away.

I'd be prepared to pay about 20K for one. But what would I go for? What is the most likely reliable option?
How often do re-build's need re-re-building?

I'm confused by the options available on the PH classifieds. For example, looking at cars nearest to me, there is a red Late 02 25K miles, no rebuild, £16K http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2476083.htm in NI, an identically priced green 04 with 40k miles, no rebuild, http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2489065.htm, But there is also an 02 46k, WITH rebuild, http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2395526.htm at £17.5K. Of those three I gravitate towards the latter as the safest bet, is this right?

Furthermore, my daily commute is sadly only 4 miles! I presume this would kill the Tamora and/or my enjoyment of it, since it would barely be warm by the time I got there?

cheers

Yes logistics can be a pita but I can assure you from first hand that it can be worth it needs planning in terms of servicing but I know that there are speed six owners in europe that come back to the UK for servicing etc

You will find a new and interesting route to work probably 20miles + I know I seem to take longer and longer into work each day smile

Buy on condition find one that has been loved

I wouldn't sell mine unless I had to or if I was buying a Sagaris !

Hi Serg2k.

If it's any use, I've had mine for a year now. 03 model with 26k on the clock. It is very much looked after and doesn't do big miles but I've not had any problems (yet). The S6 engine sometimes has a few rattly noises but I think it's just the character of it. Overall I don't think you'll be dissapointed. I'm certainly not. This one might be worth going the extra miles for http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2518412.htm condition and colour wise but then again the Chameleon Green one in Lancs is very nice too (more of a bargain). I think that was one I nearly went to see at TrackVRoad last year but not sure. If you have the facility to garage the car and keep it dry and well maintained I can't see why you'd have any reliability problems. Hope you find something nice.

Logistics aint that bad, you have Dreadnaught in Callendar who have a great reputation, or you could drive it to blackpool and get the train home to Glasgow then train back down to collect it, or get Green Star in blackpool to collect it service it and return it to you.

I have a 2005 Tamora, and I love it! If you can stretch to it, have a look at this one:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2326096.htm
Low mileage, post 2004 engine (much more reliable, apparantly)and for sale with a company that has a cast iron reputation (check out the posts on here), the last ones were the best.

Follow the warm up routine and keep it serviced regularly and your speed six engine will give you years of enjoyment - you won't regret it! Scratch that itch!!

Firstly, you DO need a Tamora in your life. Nothing comkes close for the smiles per gallon in this price range.

Secondly, having one in Scotland isn't that big a problem; as has been mentioned above, Green Star and Dreadnought are both viable options, and having used both I would happily reccomend either.

Thirdly, my Tamora (in Aberdeen) is open to offers right now (2002 car, viper blue with 30k miles). Drop me an email if you want any more details.

Go on- you always regret what you didn't do much more than what you did!

Hi serg2k
I was in the same position as you last year but i wanted a t350, gave in in May and bought one, best thing i have done, great car, great fun.
I live in Fife and was like you, abit worried everything seemed so far away, but i have dreadnaught looking after the car and i can't fault them, first class service.
I bought an old van to run the mile to my work, don't want to get car in a mess but as soon as i get home its out to playdriving
Can't recommend these cars enough, go out and buy 1 ASAP you wont regret it. smile

I'd suggest you get a cheap daily driver - Golf or something - not because the Tiv couldn't handle the commute with a decent warm-up as suggested here, but because somehow the sense of occasion is diminished when its part of your daily routine (familiarity-contempt) and things that are a minor niggle in a weekend car can seem more of a pain in the arse in a daily driver. The money you save by less frequent servicing will go a long way to covering the cost of the daily hack.

Don't worry about the logistics. I'm taking mine to X-works in Preston in a fortnight and getting the train back and then having it shipped back to Glasgow. Don't try and fight it - buy a good one, have it inspected first and you won't regret it. I'm on my 3rd though I did manage to fight for 9 years before I came back!

Take it to work and enjoy - only time I go to work with a smile on my face!

I might be able to help mate, or I'm more than happy to at least let you get a run in one to see if you like it.

Feel free to give me a shout at any time, Barry
