Hi guys,

My sag somtimes has the following issues:

-bad idling and stalling after start up on cold aswell as warm engine. This isn't the case always, sometimes it iddles just fine, sometimes it stalls if I don't slightly rev it.

-when driving at a constant speed, the engine power sometimes suddenly drops, ... When I then apply more throttle it disappears most of the time. But on some occasions it runs very lumpy for a while.

Because the power drop is instant, could it be the ignition that cuts out?

The car has basically had it from the day I bought but now it starts bothering me as it seem sto happen more often...

Does anyone have a clue what might be wrong or do you recognise these issues? Maybe ECU: ignition, fuelling, ...

Here some pictures of the car:

Sounds like the idle is set to low. Should be set at c. 800 from memory, fixable in its next service very easily.

Sorry, cant help on your other query.

Great pics, great colour!

Could be the Ecu, ours was like that, nothing to serious but Dom at power caught me holding the throttle at the traffic lights just incase it cut out and said it should be like that. Had the ecu refurb but didnt fix so in the end bought a new ecu, fixed and now runs better than ever

do you have the diagnostics software and the lead to connect the ecu to a laptop?

your tickover should be @ 950rpm when engine is hot, any less and it will tickover too low when you turn on the aircon(assume you have ac).

if all is okay on the diagnostics then raise the tickover when connected to the laptop, and when done reset the adaptives it should then be ok, but dont know why you are suffeing from power loss?

you could give jason a ring at str8six, very helpful chap.yes

Diagnostic checks should show up the problem.
Could be faulty Crankshaft sensor.

No I don't have this...

Where to get them? I know my way around cars but haven't any experience with diagnostic software. Would I cope?

Maybe best to plan a trip to the uk for service and check up. Car has been serviced by TVRpower by previous owner and Dom has been very helpful to conclude the deal. On the other hand Str8six is a lot closer.

Ringing either of the above should give you a reasonable diagnosis from your symptoms, and both should have it sorted in the blink of an eye if it was in their care.

you can download the software here; http://www.varleyhyd.com/FJ062.asp

you can probably get a lead to connect to the lapton via jason at str8six, or other tvr bods.

I've had a similar thing previously - TVR Power suggest a new ECU memory chip should fix - about £30 and easy to fit.

Let me know how you get on with it.

SBD Motorsport want £150 to test and fix the ECU, but I was told MBE themselves are usually very helpful.

they tried to fix ours but didnt solve, changed memory chip with other cars that ran fine and no fix, swapped ecu's and problem was solved
