Cigarette lighter frying everything!!

I have now burnt out 3 different charger / adapters in my cigarette lighter socket. Lighter works fine, push it in, 15 secs later red hot lighter.
Insert charger and it just fries them, proper dead like!! even got smoke from one.
Live is showing 13.7V to the socket, dunno what ampage its putting out though, anybody got any ideas where to start?

Current draw is down to the device that you connect - not sure of the fuse size but I would guess 20A max...

One suggestion is that the +ve and -ve connections are arse-about-face. Not a problem for a resistance heater but not so clever (potentially) for a charger.

Oik out the trim and try swapping the terminals over...
