OK gang

I need a new windscreen on the Sag asap. I have spoken to manning's and as usuall they have been superb in giving me the option to either use Auto Glass and pay a £60.00 exess or use an independant TVR specialist of my choice and pay a £100.00 exess.

Mannings have brought to my attention that Auto Glass supply their own screens and not a TVR original item.

My question to you all is who has had a new original TVR screen fitted recently, at what dealer and most important was the job 100% perfect. Paying inparticular attention to detail on the finish of the final rubbers etc, etc.

I'm looking for results lad's on this topic as apose to opinions please. Need to get it done prior to Chatts!

Thanking you all well in advance.

I also need much more power as a Nissan GTR did give me a little spanking. I will post the GTR topic seperatly.

Cheers

Hey fella hope you are well?

Have a look at this thread:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I would still be tempted to get a specialist to do it using original TVR glass though to be honest. I quite like the TVR logos on the glass.

Hi Chris,

Have you spoken to Autoglass? I last had one a couple of years ago and they asked me where to get the screen, I managed to track one down at David Gerald and they purchased it, had it fitted in Chelmsford, top jobsmile

Hi Chris

Someone on here asked the same question in a thread a while back and they used as well Autoglass from memory.

Have a look back through the threads and you might find the answer to your question.

Good luck, mate!

I used autoglass High Wycombe for the Tam where they have a chap that does a fair few exotic cars including TVR's.

The screen was a genuine TVR item and the rubber's etc where fine however I have since found a few fine scratchess in teh paint where they cleaned around the bottom corners of the screen.

Ours was replaced just before collection with auto windscreens I think, top job in terms of how the rubbers now sit, you would never know! Just remember to wipe the dash when its out as my fingers cant reach down the gap at the front with it in grrrrr!

What did you expect with a gtr! standard trim in excess of 500bhp with 4wd grip, if its mapped I doubt any speed six would even keep up

Standard 485 bhp and 1740kg of lardy arse = 279bhp/t

Sag is 380 / 1078kg = 353bhp/t.

Source Wiki - but I wouldn't hand it to the Nissan that easily. That's a fair bit of mapping.

What they say and what they have is a totally different figure. They seem to be closer to 480 at the wheels. I have seen a few gtr's running around 520bhp on stantard fuel with factory boost.

GTR 500bhp+ (can be alot more with minor tweaks) and 1800kg = 277bhp/tonne minimum with no timeloss in gearchanges, also the massive torque would tell...

Sagaris 380bhp(? Not seen enough of them on the dyno) and 1150kilos (T350s have weighed around this number or more, I do not believe a Sag is any lighter, infact I believe it is more) = 330 with time lost on gearchanges and the need for everything to be done 100% correct with lower overall torque. Weight actually comes into things less at higher speeds, so the GTR would be even more favourable.

Even ignoring dyno figures/weighbridges - both can be argued over - so lets see real times for set distances;

GTR's typically run high 11's in the 1/4mile, so I agree with the suggestion of a 4.3/4.5 being needed to keep up. A well driven standard Sagaris IMHO, will not dip below 12 seconds, a 4.3 might without much mechanical sympathy, a 4.5 should be better still I guess?

Astonishing cars those GTRs, but I dont doubt that the TVR is the more involving/ rewarding drive and more of an event. Some people won't 'get' either car, but they're both fantastic in their own way. smile Ideally, one should have both? scratchchincool

I really miss my Sagaris, but my current (totally standard) GTR is much faster. It has no soul though…

A very big thank you to you all, for all your super rapid responses and advice. The car is booked in for a few little sensible mods with str8six, so I have decided to let Jason and the crew sort out the screen whilst the car is there.

Once again thanking you all.

I suspect the difference would be smaller with the bigger engine (4.3/4.5) - but the gearbox and traction of the GTR is hard to appreciate without seeing it in action. As I said before, the ideal situation is to have both...

Incidentally, I clicked on your profile out of curiosity - I dare say you are just a TVR short of a perfect garage, absolutely stunning Countach sir, a man of great taste, I am very VERY jealous! thumbup
