I've noticed there seems to be several different coolant tanks on the TVRs, some have a blue cap and some like mine have a different shape tank with a brass screw cap. Is there any significant difference between them? or is one just a later version than the other.

With the brass one, I asusme I just use a large screwdriver to remove it?

The brass cap has an expansion bottle, the blue cap at the bottom of the picture. And yes just use a large screwdriver to open.

The version with the additional tank on the inner wing is a later mod done by the factory to cure the excess coolant spitting out of the cap. Instead it spits down the pipe to this additional tank. Doesn't actually help with anything other than checking your coolant level.

Thanks..

So do people check their coolant levels in the main tank, or can it be done with the expansion chamber? and if so, how much should be in there?

My separate tank likes to be just 1/4 full.

If you're re-filling from empty, or after a leak problem etc, it's best to fill the main cylinder right to the top while keeping the blue cap done up (to stop all the fluid just overflowing into the expansion tank). This way you can be sure that there isn't air in the tube between the two, which keeps the system working well. Then after tightening the brass bolt make sure that you've got about 1/3rd to 1/4 in the expansion tank as a starting point. It will chuck out what it doesn't need through the blue expansion cap.

The brass nut and seal seals well, so it needs to be done up just firmly enough, not over-tightened.
