2006 Vantage. I get the "R" in reverse, but not the red bars in normal driving. Any ideas?

Tia.

How many revs do you use? Have you hit the limiter?

See Murph's reply and my "doh!". You don't get any bars until you are close to the red line, then they come thick and fast. Not seeing any was not a problem, it was the car telling me I was not driving it hard enough!

I was told that you don't see the red bars (regardless of speed) in a manual 2006 Vantage! Is this correct?

In order to test that it's working, what would I need to bring the rev counter up to in RPM?

rofl

Not far off the rev limiter, so way to the left on the rev counter.
To test it keep your foot flat to the floor, focus on the red bars and the rev limiter - it will get there and they will all light up

Thanks Neill... So by lighting up, is this the indication for the optimum gear change or a warning to take it easy because damage will occur?

It's telling you to change gear, that's all as. No chance of damage, that's what a rev limiter is for! The engineering of the car has another 1000 revs in reserve easily before valves start bouncing.

It's easier to respond to a flicker of red in your peripheral vision than to watch the needle climbing - you should be watching the road when deploying that sort of power!

Rev limiter cuts in anyway. Its quite sudden so you get no power. Which makes you watch the red lights to change up just before the rev limiter kicks in.
Its a 2006, so a 4.3. You need to drive it like you stole it, then the whole car comes alive.
