Never thought I would see a one (77) in the wild....

A303 Eastbound this afternoon. Did a double-take and then chased after it so my wife could take some dodgy camera phone pictures. It looked and sounded awesome but fortunately was not going too fast at that point!

That diffuser looks a bit pointless on it. Way too high off the ground. Would look better without it imo.

And while we are at it - that pop-up spoiler looks a bit weedy doesn't it?

It does look a bit on the small side compared to it's rival's spoilers.

If I had £2m to spend on a car, I would rather get a collection of other Astons. Definitely this over any modern supercar though.

I really like Astons but if if I had 1.3 million my money would be going on a Pagani Zonda Cinque.

Anyway this is an Aston Martin section. I do like the One-77 and I would like to see one in the flesh.

Strangely, I saw a one-77 on the A303 back in February (don't quote me on the date). I saw it coming the other wya and said to my (now) wife "That's an Aston... wait, it looks wrong.. " I took some glee in telling her she'd probably never see another on the road.

Oh, it wasn't red - so not the same car.

No, I would not do that. I would simply approach and wait for the gentleman to pull over as a considerate driver. I am sure he would. And if he did not and instead nailed it, it would be even better!

You know what? I'm pretty sure Aston Martin have designed the spoiler to be exactly the size it needs to be, and the diffuser will work perfectly well, thanks very much. They won't design a £2m car on the back of a fag-packet...

They would design it with form > function though. It may well work, but it will be innefective on a road car. It looks like it was added as an asthetic feature to me.

The spoiler is extremly small for a supercar too, compare it to the Veyron's.

What makes me sure is that i worked as an automotive design engineer for many years, and worked at Aston briefly. The spoiler will be there because it is needed for downforce at high speeds. The fact that it is quite thin compared to the bodywork is probably purely down to the fact that due to the shape of the body, that area is where it is most effective without going crazy and having half the rear end lifting.

Plus, it's a £2m Aston, it's not going to be a stter is it?

I still think it isn't as big as it should be. As I said before, it looks like has been designed with asthetics in mind before function. Hence why a car for 1/10th the price out performs it. Look at Bugatti, there is no compramise with that car, everything is designed with form being prioritised. The One-77 is just a car for rich arabs to pose in.

Just a shame about the ones that won't go to blokes like him and instead to some arabian prince to pose around Knightsbridge in.
