which do you all reckon sounds the best?

I know youtube vids aren't much to go on, but in the absence of anything better, it will have to do for now.

RSC tuning:

Quicksilver titanium:

Powercraft:

If I've missed any obvious contenders do please feel free to post clips or links.

In the event of a tie I fancy the powercraft one for the switchability.

There's also a Larini one which gives a very high pitched scream, like a Ferrari. It actually suits the V12V.

QS also make steel ones for a fifth of the price of their titanium one smile

There is a Larini one, not heard it on the V12V, but have on the DBS. Sounds worse than OEM imo. Too high pitched.

added for posterity, however, considering the likely price, it's disappointing that Larini haven't bothered to film their V12 Vantage pipes in action. Quite hard to buy a set without hearing it first.

If I had to choose it would be the Powercraft but to get a proper impression I think you'd need to hear the engine running under load rather than just static revving - and in the flesh of course.

And why do so many exhaust videos have music over the sound ? rolleyes

I agree entirely. I've a mind to approach the exhaust companies and offer my services as videographer.

Powercraft one retails in Japan for around £5600. No clue what it would cost to get one over here.

Having now listened to them all, my money would go on the Quicksilver Supersport.

I agree - Quicksilver Supersport seems best to me too. Its only £1780 too, so much cheaper than some of the alternatives.

Lots more videos to listen to if you click on the DBS V12 Supersports link on this page - its the same engine / tune so must sound the same...

http://www.quicksilverexhausts.com/ASTON%20MARTIN_...

Its quite a lot louder too! The Quicksilver Sports exhaust lifts the sound from 96db (OEM) to 98db, The supersports lifts the sound level to 102db! Being a logrithmic scale 102db is considerably louder than 96db.

I knew the logarithmic scale means that small increases in dB equals significant increases in sound, but I didn't realize that a 10dB increase is twice as loud!

That's not right. A 3dB increase is twice as loud. A 10dB increase is 10 times as loud. So going from 96dB OEM to 102dB supersports is a factor of 4 times louder (2 times twice as loud). delta dB = 10 x log (loudness factor)

I had quicksilver titanium on my elise, sounded great (really great) at high revs and made the most migraine inducing drone at about 4000 revs (75mph). Had to remove it. Hence why switchable system appeals the most to me at the moment.

I have the Quicksilver Supersport (not Ti) on my V12V and the car in Shmee's clip also has a Quicksilver Supersport (not Ti - it's my work colleague's car). It sounds absolutely brilliant. evil

Larini IMO, had them on Vantage/DB9/DBS and now V12v its just a quality bit of kit with the sound to go with it!

I think technically both are correct. As I understand it, in pure volume terms 3db is twice as loud, but to the human ear we percieve 10db as being twice as loud.

any chance those with sports exhausts could post a vid?

don't give a stuff about tick over or start up. an exhaust worth anything pays for itself up at the redline for me, especially if its a V12.

Just remove the parcel shelf and save your dosh, sounds twice as loud folded neatly on the floor of the boot! Every time my standard (fuse 22 removed.. ahem) car starts up I think OMG that's loud, can't imagine it louder - it would wipe out the whole village !!!! biggrin

Another Larini DBS vid here.

IMO it sounds the best - love the high pitch scream and growling low end at lower revs.

If one could be fitted with a muffler on a switch - it'd be fantastic.

Just need to find my V12V now!! The one I had my eye on in Cambridge got sold 1 hour before I went to test drive it frown
