Hi Francis,

I'm new to the the forum, but have read part one of your product buying guide with great interest. Many thanks for the very useful information provided and in updating the post. I've just acquired a 2 year old Onyx black V8V which unfortunately looks to be suffering from some quite bad swirl marks. As I'm based in Switzerland I'd prefer to do the renovation myself and I've got a few questions for you:
- As I don't own a polishing machine, but can similar results be achieved by hand with a bit of elbow grease? Or is that unrealistic and it's better to invest in a polisher?

- Do I need to clay the car in addition to waxing?

- The car has previously had some kind of "nano" treatment applied which doesn't seem to be so effective anymore. I'm assuming that the polishing will remove what remains of this treatment? Are there any special considerations to be looked at when polishing a car that has been previously treated?

I was planning to hand polish with Menzerna Power Finish (203S) followed by Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish. With Swissvax pre cleaner and wax to finish.

Many thanks again for your help and advice.
Cheers,
Paul

Its more or less going to be the same as the first, but with some new additions, but thought i would ask, just in case anyone wanted to know anything specific.

Mr snowman:

To be honest, i think the best thing you can do is buy yourself a dual action machine polisher like the meguiars one, a couple of yellow polishing pads and some menzerna IP 302.

If you were to do it by hand, you wouldnt get nearly the same results, plus after the first panel, you will be wanting to give up and wishing you had bought the machine.

Then i would go over it with the cleaner fluid and then wax. But if you wanted to go down the blackfire route, you could use their gloss enhancing polish, followed by their sealant or wax.

If you have not clayed the car before, then i would suggest doing that first (before machine polishing) and if you really wanted to have a clean car, get yourself a bottle of iron x.

Any other questions, let me know.

Francis
