I pulled up to a roundabout, clearly indicating to turn left at the first exit. As I took the exit I noticed the driver of the car at the roundabout had stopped and was watching me... What he didn't see was the man in the car behind, who was also watching me rather than the road, SLAM! into the back of him because he forgot to brake.

I'm wondering if my insurance premiums are high, not because of the potential accidents I may be involved in, but instead the potential accidents I may cause.

It all happened in slow motion. I slowed and thought about turning around and going back but then they got out of their cars and started shouting at each other.

Thought better of it.

I bet this is one of the more frequent causes of "accidents". People pulling onto roundabouts becoming distracted/hesitating pulling out and a car behind watching the gap rather than the car in front.

I was in traffic the other day and left a gap so a guy could cross the road in front of the car, he was so busy looking at the car he forgot to check the traffic travelling in the other direction ... he managed to jump clear of an oncoming mini, but it was a near miss!

A friend-of-a-friend who was a traffic cop said this was really common.

Specifically what he said was something like, car 2nd in queue, sees gap thinks "right he's gone" about the car infront, then takes off when he sees a second gap come up.

That always stuck with me.

As soon as I got my Aston we noticed the "motorway drift", and it still happens all the time.

Approach a car on the motorway and it starts to drift out of its lane - usually to the left. The driver's obviously staring at the Aston in their mirror and not looking in the direction they're travelling! It's rather alarming how often this happens. eek Haven't caused an accident yet, though.

I'm guessing I can look forward to this and similar incidents happening in the future then. smile
