Travelling down the A38 in Devon today in my DB9 and picked up a nasty chip on the windscreen.

Looking at the chip from certain angles you can see a small fracture line in the in the glass as well. The chip is in the sweep area of the O/S wiper so will be subject to inspection at MOT time.

I really don't want the hassle , but to be honest I think the screen will need to be replaced as opposed to repaired.

If it does , can the job be done by Autoglass which is the company my Insurers nominate or is it a visit to the main dealer in which case am I entitled to nominate just who does the work ?

Anyone else here had to have a screen replaced ?

On my last Aston same thing happened to me .......couple of points ......is your windscreen cover unlimited.......you will probably have to go through Autoglass but they may decide not to touch it in which case your local dealer will do it......which is what happened to me

My policy excess for windscreen replacement is £75 . The policy states that " We will pay for the replacement or repair of the glass in your cars windscreen............."

If I do not use their approved repairer the most the insurance company will pay is £185 less the £75 excess.

Presumably your insurers paid up in full even though their "approved repairer " did not carry out the work ?

had mine done 6 weeks ago. Insurer's use National Windscreen. Had to take care to the depot where there senior but did it, as its not a roadside job. 4-5 hours of work. Talk to your local Autoglass depot and see if they've done it before.

Autoglass did mine - the screens are so rare they are not usually available in a "pattern" part so have to come direct from the Aston factory, so may take a few more days waiting to get one in stock

other than that, no different to any other windscreen, they did a perfect job

Had the same thing happen to me in my V8V, stone cracked the windscreen and it wasn't repairable.

My insurer also recommended Autoglass and although I was a little hesitant about not using a main dealer to take care of the replacement, Autoglass were excellent. New genuine Aston heated screen and no problems whatsoever.

Did removal of the windscreen wiper assemblies present any problems to the Autoglass fitters ?

no issues at all as far as im aware ...they do have to do similar on other cars...theres really nothing special apparently about changing a screen on an Aston, other than its an expensive car

I inspected it before and after and the only difference with the new screen was that I had to buy a new magnetic tax disc holder as backing was on the old screen
