Subjective Q I know but which gearbox is better on V8V?
Discussion
So, looking at buying the Mrs a V8V (secondhand) and trying to work out which gearbox would suit her better
Which do you think is easier to get on with on a day to day basis
Hoping it would be a 4.7
Our current fleet includes a traditional automatic, twin clutch auto, manual, and automated manual and she is probably not a major fan of the automated manual whereas I know how to work with it
Just wondered what owners views and particularly those whose female partners have use of an AM were
TIA

Keep in mind a very tall reverse gear. SS has no hill start and requires developing your technique.
TBH the only answer that matters here is the one your better half makes.;)
That is a good first reply, thanksTBH the only answer that matters here is the one your better half makes.;)
On the second bit true but you know they change their mind don't you......

My better half loved the SS but hated the reverse so we have gone for a manual this time.... clutch isn't that heavy and she is a slight lady.... let your lady test drive both and then you will get the nod.... Which do you think is easier to get on with on a day to day basis

yeah, its a mans car alright, although my other half likes driving my stick
clutch is one of heaviest in any car ive driven but the alternative sportshift takes some getting used to as well
I think the SS version 2 is meant to be better, but if your missus is going to be a driver of the car, then perhaps youd better get her to a test drive to try it

Having driven all three gearboxes in different engine versions I'd agree with the "manly" manual and technique required for ASM1.
Of all of them I would say ASM2 is the easiest to use. Lower reverse, no creep mode, hill start, good auto mode. Only problem is you will have to buy a Vantage S

Go for the Vantage S! Gear box is brilliant, hill assist makes the handbrake vitually redundant. It just makes sense!
You and Mikey aren't helping on this one as this seems the logical choice and my nearest dealer has one in a colour that she loves.....http://usedcars.jardinemotors.co.uk/search/used-ca...
I think I need to go and have a go first then I'll take her a long !

I would try it out... I drove a demo car that was almost identical but the one thing I wasn't sure about was the sport seats.. the standard ones seems to be more comfortable so I would deffinatly have a go in it.http://usedcars.jardinemotors.co.uk/search/used-ca...

Just spoke to my mrs about this. Ours is a manual V8V. Her response was unequivocally "the one nearest an automatic- I don't know why you got the manual, we should have got one of those with the paddle things".
So there you have it. Spoken like a true Pistonhead.
As for the suggestion above about a DB9 with full auto - you will have to establish what the female equivalent of pipe and slippers is so she is fully equipped if you go down that route.

Re db9, it is a big car too!!!
Like the other's have said, it is down to personal choice - take an extended test drive in both, or ask your local friendly dealer if they are doing a Millbrook drive. For what its worth I'm for manual every time, but the Mrs drove a Sportshift at Millbrook and she much preferred that to the manual!

Blue rinse and bingo..?
The DB9 would have been driven by the likes of Grace Kelly or Sophia Loren in period... the Vantage would be driven by Jodie Marsh or some X-Factor winning type.
