I read the following post in a different topic, and thought it might get buried among the more relevant posts. I thought it deserved it's own topic, so am reposting it here:

Looked at this with interest
However mine is from the interior wheel (steering)
Kind of a whine when turning

I too have recently noticed this faint noise coming from my steering wheel. It is audible at low speeds and when the car is sitting still. It sounds almost like fabric swishing against another surface, or perhaps rubber moving against something. It is definitely from the steering wheel itself and not the tires. I've checked the power steering fluid and the level seems to be fine. Any thoughts?

It's normal that power steering whines a little when you turn the wheel when stationary. This makes the PAS work very hard indeed and the whine you hear is cavitation of the fluid as it passes through the pump. If the whine gets worse at full lock, then this is what it is.

IF you noise is more of a squeak then I would be looking at lubricating the steering column - probably where is goes through the bulkhead.

I've got exactly the same thing on my 2006 V8V. Slight brushing sound inside the car. Nothing to do with the PAS.

Doesn't bother me though.

Hi all,
Old topic I know. However I’ve not seen any one feedback with the culprit . If it’s the same as my 2007 V8V with that squeaking noise. Some what like foam rubber against foam rubber. Especially when doing 3 point turn etc. It does get worse. It’s the airbag squib. So no expensive replacement steering column. I’m just waiting on new price from. take your pants down Aston. Otherwise £93 on bay with stalks.

I’ll be interested to hear if a replacement squib solves the noise - my steering is quite noisy, especially as the cabin warms up. My guess would have been the column bushes (it’s not the bulkhead seal - I’ve already tried that..)

2007 steering wheel squeak. It’s the air bag squib. Jag part

I had this on mine, plus a slight knock sometimes.

After doing a bit of digging it turns out the airbag was moving about and there was an Aston Martin fix.

I added the washers onto the bolts that hold the airbag on which took around 10 mins and the knock was gone, but oddly so was the rubbing sound.

Could be worth a try.
