A question for all you V12V owners who have tried 'decorking' the exhaust (or pulling the fuse for the valve):

Did you notice a loss of low-end torque?

I ask from the perspective of a former V8V owner who tried removing fuse 22 and found a noticeable loss of oomph at low revs... I have read many comments to the contrary, but I for one found it quite unpleasant and quickly put the fuse back in.

TIA for responses!

Absolutely no noticable loss, but in fairness it has bucket loads so a few off would not be noticed anyway.

Quench...I refer you to page 15 of the Bamford Rose sticky...

"Loss of low speed torque when fuse 22 is removed - there is None - exhaust bypass valves open Vs closed returns the same torque output. On a 4.7L 10% torque loss is approx. 50Nm, the report of this sort of loss by removal of fuse 22 is quite outrageous."

Now, I don't pretend to understand what Mike says most of the time...I'm just that wee bit thick when it comes to cars....

However, I'm going to trust him on this one smile

Well... Unless something was wrong with your car, that didn't happen because it's not possible, there is no connection. So it's hard to answer your question if you're convinced that it happened to your V8.

The answer is no, by the way, there is no difference smile

Thanks for the replies and the referral to BamfordMike's comments. Very odd. It's not like I approached fuse 22 removal looking for excuses to put the fuse back in - quite the opposite, in fact. Unlike Speedraser, I noticed a loss of torque mainly from standing starts, not at speed. Do I have objective measurements to refute Mike's data? Nope. Oh well, perception isn't a science...

EFA.

I'm certainly missing G1's dry sense of humour.

Quinny's my mate but he didn't half moan a lot... smile
