Sat Nav stuck half way up/down
Discussion
First day back at work with awesome new V12V and whilst switching off Sat Nav (I can rememebr way to work; just fiddling) the Sat Nav stops half way. Switching on and off does nothing. Obviously a warranty item but does anyone know a quick fix for this, save me loosing car for a day?

Mine is stuck down
Because it is too crap to use
I know the satnav gets a general slating but what is it that you don't like about it?Because it is too crap to use

I'd say (with the 2011 maps) it's equal to the TomTom One I stick to the screen in my other cars. Maybe not a glowing thumbsup for a £stupidprice option, but it's not *that* terrible, is it?

Also got an issue with the sat nav not rising, although does make a noise. Sounds like motor could have gone..anyone had any similar problem?
As mentioned there's a gear that fails; happened to mine. You can hear the electric motor running, but the lid doesn't come up. I could open & close mine manually.About an hour of labour and an inexpensive part at the dealer.
Got back in car and had a look. Turns out there was a small screw rolling around
which stopped it from dropping. Works fine now.
No idea where screw came from.
I have to say that compared to sat nav in 2007 MY 4.3, this is a great deal better and far more useable. I believe the 2012 MY has an even better one.
Mine shows cameras, but seems to have no audio warning. Anyone know how it or I update this feature?

Remember reading somewhere on volvo forum gears break easily. Some guy in Germany makes replacement metal cogs. Not an issue if warranty in place but option for those out of warranty. Fairly easy fix as I recall. I'll hunt out link when I'm at computer instead of iPhone.

I am one stage on from that and have the "new" Garmin system in my S. Yes it is better than the Volvo system, there "buts" thoughI'd say (with the 2011 maps) it's equal to the TomTom One I stick to the screen in my other cars. 1 slow to respond leave me apparently in a field or past the junction
2 still doe not find ALL postcodes (unlike my Tom Tom from years ago)
3 voice commands are far too frequent forget the stereo if you use the sat mac (or switch them off which makes reading the directions even harder)
4 very very clunky and time consuming way points (at least it has it but I still find the Tom Tom itn system wipes the floor with it)
5 auto zoom in & out as you speed up or pass through junctions is confusing (caused a bit of a detour through Clitheroe twice
)6 it has traffic info and speed cameras but my Tom Tom has those and updates and reroutes
TBH no in built system is going to keep up with the speed and development of the portable units as they are much slower to come to market and hence months if not years behind

Therein lies the rub...in-built systems do not have the flexibility of the hand-held ones.

Having said that, the volvo one has never got me lost and even showed me the correct way on the aforementioned Clitheroe route

Garmin received rave reviews before AM adopted them, but now TomTom is starting to pull ahead again

James. Where do I get the 2011 disk from please?I'd say (with the 2011 maps) it's equal to the TomTom One I stick to the screen in my other cars. Maybe not a glowing thumbsup for a £stupidprice option, but it's not *that* terrible, is it?

Hmmm....I've just downloaded that 'mandatory patch'.Funny, Which? has constantly had Garmin at the top of its reviews but the last couple of months has seen TomTom top the table with the Via Live 125 etc.....perhaps this will now change ??
Pain in the bum too that it doesn't run off TomTom Home, but runs instead off My TomTom on IE - hence my difficulty in using the Itn Converter to transfer Mr K's route.
Suppose I shall have to read the Manual

If it's the same as my MY10 it only sounds if you've actually got navigation active (rather than just displaying the map with no destination set) . It gives out a camera-shutter like "click" just as you're approaching.yvr said:
There's a service bulletin (SB0283) issued 3rd February 2009 that addresses this specific issue (Title = "Satellite Navigation Display Screen, Repair to the Transport Mechanism"). Does warranty cover all service bulletins?
Update on this issue...Had my car picked up and fixed on Wednesday, and would have been covered if it was a broken part. In fact the cogs had come loose and fallen out of place, so they reassembled and working again. Was delivered back to me and charge was £75.
