Hello All

Are the HID Headlamps standard on the Vantage?

If it's an optional extra, what's the difference between these and the standard lights? I've noticed adverts some listing them and some without but the lights on the car itself look the same.

Thanks

They weren't but maybe on the current models.
Check in Grants book.

Hi Sukh,
HIDS are in the options section, page 164, will tell you all you need to know.

But I assume you haven't got it at work, so a quick summary - they were an optional extra up until 09MY (£500 squid-ish!), standard from 010MY onwards (so Autumn 2009). They include a Xenon bulb for dipped beam only (which reduces dazzle and gives better lighting with oncoming traffic etc), plus built-in headlight washers. A useful extra as the standard dipped beam isn't very good. Hope this helps.

can only assume one of your LED side lights has blown, dealer has told you it's a new unit, you've looked online to replace, noticed there are two types and don't know which one yours is.....?

been there, done that.

Someone did say that they had never seen a Vantage without HIDs. So a bit like the SatNav, pretty much every car has that option.

I find some ads really irritating, they will give you information like V8, petrol, 48 valve, electric seats ... They all have those, AM never did a V8 vantage with a straight six. They never pushed out the odd one with only 47 valves, they don't do diesel.

What we need when looking at cars is a simple list of the options on that car that we wouldn't find on every other car. Listing the stuff that came as standard just wastes everyone's time. OK, rant over

Thanks for info guys!

Michael - I agree with your rant. It's annoying that as a buyer the spec listed is never accurate, half of the time they dont know anything about the spec and what the options actually were from new! I educated one dealer by asking them to turn on the stereo to check for premium audio, wasn't listed in the spec though!

Firstly: Happy Vaisakhi Sukh
Secondly: Are we saying if one of the LED bulbs go, we are forced to replace the entire unit? How much is a unit?

Thanks :-)

Not sure it was general question I haven't bought a vantage yet but on the lookout! Surely a bulb is replaceable

Yep, unfortunately - around £1200 for a new one. £500-£600 for a second hand unit.

It can be fixed with a replacement/repaired PCB unit assuming you can open the sealed headlamp without damaging/smashing the cover - which is very, very difficult.
