LED behind mirror turn off

On my V8V there's an LED between the interior mirror and the screen which shines down on the gear stick. I prefer a dark cabin at night and usually have instruments on fully dimmed. Is it possible to turn this off?

Are you referring to the map light? If so, there are two of them, but neither should remain lit all of the time. They come on when the door is opened and should fade out. Could you have accidentally hit one of the buttons to turn it on? Buttons are here on pre-2009:

There's no switch to turn it off. You'd have to remove the surround and disconnect it. Pull out the small grill to reveal a screw that secures the surround.

No Brumma it's not the map lights - this ia a single small LED close to the screen recessed into the bulge behind the mirror. Thanks too kabman -I'll have a look tomorrow to see if I can disconnect it.
