Difficulties changing gear.

My V8V has always been a bit "clunky" in changing reverse and low gear but I put that down to the fact it had a lot of torque to handle (I had the same experience with mt Griffith but very different to the smoothness of the change on my focus). The car goes into Bamford Rose early June and I have asked them to look into the gear linkage / selection (6years old with 40K on the clock). However yesterday the situation got much worse and reverse / low gear was a struggle to select. The outcome being I have decided not to drive the car until the service date.

Has anybody experienced the same sort of thing with an early vantage? If so what was the outcome?

I live in Somerset and Bamford Rose is a 78 mile drive. Is it OK to drive the car there for the service or should I consider trailering it in?

All help / advice greatly appreciated.

Hi, I think this is a relatively well documented "feature" of the early Vantage, I believe adjusting the linkage and changing the fluid is often the cure - I don't think I've heard of any major issues besides this - maybe give Mike a call and see what he suggests?

thanks for the response. On advice of Adrian at BR I'm going to arrange for the car to be recovered to them. Also had the RAC have a quick look at it and the chap thinks it is almost certainly the clutch (ouch). I guess time will tell. Anybody in the market for one of my kidneys?

I was going to say clutch!!!!!

Mine did something similar, wouldnt let me select 5th or 6th....

Asuming it is the clutch it's going to be £1300 parts, £650 labour with VAT on both. Adrian at BR said it did well to last 40K on the original clutch (if it is the original clutch.

How does that compare?
